Some nay-sayers bawk and suggest these changes are to save $$ and downgrade the engine. I respectfully disagree. I'd rather have a lighter crank. Single timing chain is less weight and less friction. Many other changes too. You can imagine all the minor issues discovered after initial B58 release. They constantly refine to improve.

Not sure what you are test driving. 2020 M340 is an incredible car. It blows the doors of the x3 M40 of 2019.

new engine is the same that is in Supra and feels more like 400 HP. M340 is a 4 sec car with x drive.

I didn't test drive anything. I was given a M340i xdrive as a loaner for 4 days while my car was in service. Have you actually driven the car?

No way, no how does it blow any doors off my X4. I was expecting a clear step up from the F30 and I did not observe that from my time with the G20. It was just marginally better in some ways and nowhere near the quality of my new X4.

The MSRP of the M340i was only about $10K less than my car but felt over $20K cheaper because of the interior materials and ride quality.

Not worth it to me. But as they say, different strokes.

The UK / Euro specs of the MY 40i engine state 360bhp, the assumption being that there's a NOX filter reducing output. Having decoded the VIN of my car in production it shows the engine as 285KW which is the full 382bhp or is it ps... either way it's not 360. Is the Euro version of the engine really 382bhp?

I'm looking for the same answer. Also decoded my vin on a couple of sites and it shows as 285kW, which is 382bhp. Living in hope that it comes with that power but thinking that it's likely a background issue where that engine is showing on the vin decoders as 285kW but has been derated for Europe.

My 2019 M40i shows as 265kw when BMW state 260kw for mine ... and one decoder says 250kw .... !!

Mine is a MY20 M40i. As far as I know MY19 is 360bhp (265kw)

265kw is 355bhp which I think is what's usually quoted for pre MY20 UK cars. There seems to be a deliberate update to UK published specs to 360bhp so probably it's correct...hoping for 382..

The new 340i xdrive is 382 except in the UK where I think it is showing 374hp ? Bloody EU

Has anyone gotten to the bottom of what we get for our UK spec M40i's?

I think there was some suggestion that it'd be the same engine as the new 340i. But even the BMW online config says 275kw (374hp) for that, and 265kw (360hp) for the M40i!
