Hi all,

I'm getting a xDrive 30i and it's coming with 19" All-Season RFT. It's a lease car and I will be driving around 10K to 12K miles per year

Question: Will there be acceptable tread left in tires for BMW to take them back in 48 months? Or shall I purchase a tire protection package which will save me the hassle and cost of new tires at end of lease.

If I were you, I will rather spend the money on a set of Winter wheels and tire.
So you will only use the all-season tire half of the year.
(You have 30i, so can use 18" winter setup easily).
The money put on it also give you safer driving in winter. Instead of just a "protection Plan".

I was shopping for my winter package and know for 18" , if you don't use RFT, you can have the whole package included TPMS with tax under $1800

Thanks for this really good insight. Now, I am regretting getting All-Season tires. If I were to get Winters anyway, performance summer tires would have been so much better than A/S

Can you share your experience with A/S tires that came with your vehicle i-e summer performance, road noise etc. (I don't have the car yet, picking it up in few days)

Mind is M40i , that come with 21" and summer only.
My last one was 330 that come with All season. Is acceptable for daily driving.

Doesn't matter what car, I always use winter tires. All-Season actually mean 3 season.

The way I see it, winter tires is best investment to the car, because when you using it, your All Season / Summer tire just last longer.

Looking at the 2020 X3 M40i and the only all season tire offered is the 19 inch that comes standard. If you want anything bigger has to be the performance tire. I could stick with the 19s but would really like to get the 20s, but am leery of performance tires. Anyone have advice on how to handle the tire situation given the lack of options? Thanks.

Ordered my X4 with staggered, 20" performance RFT(just loved the look) and chose to just replace the tires for the winter season with Continental ExtremeContact™ DWS06 NRFTs. I don't change tires myself, can't see the need for another set of expensive rims and cheap rims just ruin the look. I added a tire inflation kit for those, just in case, but never needed it yet.

Bridgestone Alenza;s = 12k miles
Continental DWS06 = 10k miles

After 22K miles, I can report that both are wearing well and have at least another full season to go. AFAIC, I see no difference in ride performance, but think the RFT do seem a bit louder. Conti's have performed well in my Pa. winter slop. YMMV

Dumb question, but I'm confused. Are the 20 RFTs the same performance tires on the configurator or did you do something special to get the car outfitted with those. Thanks.

I got my 2019 X4 with the 19" RFT AS option and it came with Bridgestone Duelers. As you are also in Ontario, I assume you will get the same. I have only had a few weeks with the car so I can't comment on long term performance, but I am not really happy with them (don't like RFT anyway). They seem to bounce and skip a bit and are quite loud. For winter, I have bought 18" wheels and Pirelli Sotto Zero 3s in the BMW Canada recommended 225/60/18 size. It is supposed to be a snowy winter so better not stick with the AS tires. Proper snows really make a difference.

These were the standard 20" performance tires on the configurator (at least for the 2019 model). Came thru as Bridgestone Alenza 20".

Driven 100 miles on my new 19" RFT AS and they are crap. They don't seem to do anything really well. Noisy. Hard when going straight, squishy when going hard in the corners. And they do bounce and skip. Can't wait to replace them.

I agree with getting a new set of winter tires. How much did the whole package cost you? Its my first time with A/S and first time with RFT. Previously, I've used summer performance and winter dedicated tires. Let's see how goes

I'm looking at getting some Michelin Pilot Sport AS's for mine. I only have a two year lease, so I don't really want to spend a lot on swapping or getting another set of wheels, and here in the Salt Lake City area, all seasons are usually sufficient. It's not ideal, but I'll hang onto my Alenza's just in case.

If it's a 30i with M Sport Package the brakes are the same as the M40i and, so, not every 18" wheel will fit.

oh, with M brake is differ story, only some 18" fit

I know R198 fit, my neighbor using it on his 2018 M40i

I was about $2000 for the set. I opted for non-RFT which were a bit cheaper. One thing that annoyed me was the lack of wheel options suitable for these tires, as they need a lower offset. I have the 19" 692 wheels with the stock AS tires and the offset is 32, but the 18" winter wheels from BMW are 25mm. A lot of the ones I looked at were 40mm offset which were not suitable. I went through Canadawheels.ca and they provided a selection that would fit my X4 with those tires.

FYI

DWS06 is not a winter tire, its all season tire.

and tire protection package is only use when tire is damage or puncture.

it has nothing to do with tread depth upon return the car at end of lease.

Does this mean you don't have a spare tire in case of a puncture? Or there's space in the trunk for an additional spare? I am also looking to get Non-RFT winters. I got a few quotes: BFGoodrich WINTER T/A KSI with repika wheels for about $1500. If I get Blizzard DMV2s, it'll be about $1800

Correct, I go with a tire repair kit and CAA. I have had slow leaks that are detected with routine checks, and easily repaired, but I have had one actual sudden flat in 30 years. I'm just going with the percentages. Also, I think if I am stranded with a flat, it will be a lot easier to find a regular tire as a stop gap than finding a RF.
