X3 M40i - real world economy
Hi all.
As the name suggests I have read the 40d thread with interest and wondered what people were getting in with the 40i especially in the uk. Due to pick up at the end of the month and leaving a 5 series touring 2.0d where I am averaging 46mpg over the 11k miles I've done in the 9 month I've had it. Going to do about 12-15k a year in the X3 mix of driving. |

I’ve done just over 1500 miles since new. First drive included a long motorway run and we managed 27.3 mpg. Since then it’s been just around town, with occasional A road blast. It’s been as high as 18.3 and as low as 16.5 (excluding first run) using brim to brim method. Overall it’s at 19.5 mpg.
I wasn’t expecting it to be much over 20 though, and as we we have gone to just one car, it wasn’t part of my buying decision. We don’t expect to do more than 6-7k miles a year though.

24.1 mpg (Imperial, not US) with a mix of local streets, 50mph roads and motorways over the last 3 months/6000 miles since I got it.
Not great, but roughly what I expected |

We get about 25 to 27 MPG in our 2019 X4 M40i... At least when the wife drives... I've had it down to 16 MPG when I drive it though. It's a fun car but nowhere near as fun in a straight line as my old Hellcat(s)

Just hit the 5,000 mile mark on my M40i and I'm at a 17.4MPG lifetime average. I drive in Sport mode 95% of the time (even coded to start in Sport mode) and Sport+ the other 5%. My daily commute is all city roads and about 44 miles in total.
Not the best numbers but it's more about the smiles than the miles.

I put nearly 7,000 miles on my M40i before I traded it in, but it averaged about 20-22mpg overall. Saw as low at 16 around town while having fun, but never higher than 27 or 28 on highway trips.

My best was 2hr trip from Minneapois to Duluth.. daughter was driving, 3 of us in the car. 29.5 MPG. I've managed 28.5 on 1+ hr drives.
My regular combined city/hwy is 22-23 mpg. I spend a certain amount of my work commute in Eco mode; though frequently switching to adaptive or sport+ depending on situation and my attitude.

Maybe with push starts and remove the brakes. ;-)

I get 14 litres per 100 kms. that is 16miles per gallon US.
https://www.convertworld.com/en/fuel...er-100-km.html I found the behaviour that causes the high fuel use. Extreme acceleration from standstill. |

Only just got mine and I've done very few miles so far (150), but the economy is best described as tragic...! Unfortunately I do lot's of town driving with lots of stop start and it struggles to get over 15/16 mpg. Bear in mind I'm running it in and haven't even found out what the performance is like yet. We had a short trip to York at the weekend (about 30 miles) and it managed 25mpg. It's managing to make my 310ps Audi S3 look quite economical by comparison.

I mostly average about 50 miles a day normally and they tend to be dual carriage way type driving so hopefully I'll sneak it into the 20's |

MPG
Wow! Some people have really heavy right feet lol. My average over 10,000 miles is 29mpg. I'm in central London, so around town I'll only get 16-ish, but on a good motorway run it's mid-30's. Obviously I don't tend to use it for many short trips around town as it's far more painful than using the Tube, hence my average comes from its use on mostly longer runs.
