Upgrading Car Multimediasystem, Navigation and Cluster

Hello BMW-drivers and Forum-members,

Since I am back from my USA-roadtrip I wanna continue with my X3-project.
First of all I am going to change the display and navigation system in my F25.
The only reasonable solution I got was this android system from china: https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...25321265OBpuON

Also I am looking forward to change my original cluster to a new and digital unit. I even found an vendor for that in europe but the guy was rather rude when I asked some questions so for now I skipped him and I wait for a more trustworthy seller. https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...687373fdWf33yI

Has anyone here ever done a similar project and can share his experience?

I know that bimmertech is selling all this solutions too but their price is just not justified imho.

-Thanks,
Chris

what year is your X3? what options do you currently have? I would be interested in upgrading my nav to NBT and possibly getting android functionality. I have a 2011 X3 35i with technology package (including head up display).

My X3 is 2012/10 and has Bluetooth with an AUX input only. No Navigation atm. So the upgrade is more than necessary
I ordered the Android system from china a couple of days ago.
Can tell you more when the package arrived.

+1.

I hit the trigger on a an android headunit for my audi, xtrons one, and I must say, its a nice upgrade. OEM look, plug n' play, better sound quality, etc.
For about 300$ usd, 8 core, 4 gb ram, 8.0 OS, that was one of the best upgrade I did on my car.

I took a look on xtrons website, they have many android head units for BMWs, but not quite sure for the x3.
And they are expensive! 400-600$ for 2gb devices...

I didn't know that nav was an option on these x3.
Mine is a 13', with bluetooth, 15? speakers, usb, 3.5mm, sat, etc, but the indash screen is small and no nav.

Update: I found someone who offers to upgrade my analog Cluster to the new digital one (6WB) for 1000€,- in total and I am going to do it.
Its an local BMW tuner like Bimmertech. http://www.bimmerretrofit.at
Although he is 300km away I am going to drive there cause then it's a 100% sure thing. I can watch him installing it and he will give me tipps. He is specialized in upgrading all BMW Multimedia systems with original BMW parts. He has many customers who ordered an BMW with small screens and without navi or bluetooth and he upgrades them as if BMW would do it!
He also mentioned you need to keep the old cluster cause if BMW decides to call you car for a unscheduled maintenance you need to have the old one and original cluster installed. He also told me that the info for the cluster is saved on the cluster itself so whenever I switch them I dont need to code them again!
So far he gave me reall good info I would say.

Ill update as soon as the Android-Multimedia system is here. In 2 weeks Ill upgrade my X3 with an high-end hifi-system for about 1500€,- aswell.
I found a company that won 7 years in a row the national car-hifi-contest and I think they are a good choice aswell.

Let me know if someone here is going to order the 6WB online.

-Thanks

This is exactly what I have been searching for. I have a 2013 X3 w/CIC. Bimmertech prices are ridiculous. Let us know how everything works out with your upgrade. Thanks for sharing the link.

The Android system arrived today! Hurray
It only took 2 days to prepare them the correct display version, 3 days of shipping and 1 day for
customs office.
The display looks amazing and even though it was already night time I disassembled my X3
Kinda got it to work but I dont habe a connection to my scroll-pad and I cant control the display.
Have to request the actual manual, do some research on that and will let you know if I got more info or progres.
