Regenerative braking reduced function error.
I have a new x3 m40i and was driving it down a small hill. An error message popped up saying: the regenerative braking function reduced. Please visit the nearest service center. Has this happened to anyone else? Some information on dealer/service center's response will be much appreciated.

it's happened several times to me. - always going downhill.

error cleared itself. I would have the dealer note it with mileage.

But have you notice any changes to your braking? It seems the strength of the energy recycle is a bit weaker than before. The brake also gets a bit softer.

Why did you open new topic as you did also find existing one where you posted too?

I've never run into this, but I press sport mode before I shift to Drive. I hate all of that "eco" nonsense.

Hi and yes just the once, going downhill but I also noticed the battery showed fully charged - I searched this forum and someone with experience suggest s/w error, also had a notification come thro on the App. I ignored, but a week later I got a call from BMW as they were notified, I took up with dealer and they came back with.....

"They checked and found no outstanding campaigns on your vehicle so suggested to not worry for now. If a notification does come up on the car though and remains then to book the car in"

Not had anything since

Thanks! That's helpful. I wonder if you noticed any differences before and after the message?
I do feel the regenerative function has been reduced a bit. The brake become softer for me afterwards.

It's an erroneous message. BMW is aware of the situation. It is purely software related and does not affect anything.

Thanks. But the regenerative function seems to have been reduced. When I pull up the engine flow function on the screen. The battery does not charge properly, and electronic assistance no longer kicks in. Have you noticed that too?

I don't have a 48v mild hybrid. I am a tech who has seen this check control message and documentation from BMW stating it's a software error.

I've had this message several, several times.

I am almost always at two out of five "cells" represented charged in the GUI… I almost never make it to four and I've only seen five sells charged once. Do you know if that is normal behavior for this system?

It seems like there are many of us that had this start when the car was so new, that we don't have any baseline system behavior to compare to.

Mine has been 2/5 since yesterday. Electric assistance no longer kicks in. That's one day after the message showed up. Before that, battery charge seemed to be normal - at 4/5, and the screen says electric assistance when the car accelerates.

not noticed anything different, not that I've looked tbh. Breaks still seem ok, good in fact, I live in a hilly area and the battery does get to 5 full cells at times, depending on my driving, and the roads.

Stupid question. Is there anything I need to do to make sure this is active? I'm assuming all this is supposed to work if you have the 48v mild hybrid battery.

Have no idea. Don't think there is a switch. It's just there. Would be nice if they make it adjustable.
