For Lexus it's totally a different story. It drives smooth; soft and it's reliable but you don't get the same driving experience as bmw. Just my personally opinion |

hi OP - it's been about 4 weeks since you got the software update fix. Have you gotten any more errors since? Do you consider your problem fixed?

On the positive note, BMW Braman here in WPB impressed me with the service. |

I might have moved from a Lexus to Lexus, but I really hated the huge grill styles they were getting into, hence moving to BMW. Hopefully your issue is the sensor. I would guess it's a camera sensor because mine only comes on when the camera sensor is obsured with dirt or morning frost. Once it's cleared, it stops giving me the warning. |

Mine is on the dealer too
Hi,
In the last 3 weeks I drove my car only one day to find out they didn’t solve the Reduced Driver assistance of my December 2018 X3. The first time I’ve noticed there was a problem I took the car to the dealer and they took one week to had the speed sensor of one of the rear wells replaced but after only one day the warnings started to pop out again. The car is in the dealer again for one week now and they think it can have a broken cable connecting the sensor. The dealer said BMW is guiding them on the diagnosis and they’re road testing it with a temporary alternate cabling. All this electronic systems should have better diagnostic built in. This is my third BMW and the most expensive one and the only that gave me problems. The first day in the dealer the battery light was on and they had it replaced in one week and now with less than 5000km and 5months it’s on the dealer again because of this issue with driver assistance. It’s frustrating understand that no one has no clue on what’s happening with a brand new vehicle, I hope this not a lemon because I’m changing from a X1 that was run over by another driver and the dealer never was able to properly restore the car to it’s good driving and now this... |

After this software update in late January I never took my car on highway until yesterday. Immediately after starting ACC and auto Steering wheel, I disabled distance control and I drove about 150 Kms on passive cruise control at selected speed. At this stage I got same Reduced Driver Assistance warning and I could not even turn on cruise control. So that software update in January didn't help at all. This is my first BMW, the most expensive vehicle I ever bought in my life and I face this kind of issues. Most disappointing thing is that BMW does not even have clue what is root cause of this issue faced randomly by random users. May be they know the cause but does not want to spend money to replace some expensive parts and associated repair cost. I will be taking my X3 to the dealer next week but I am not sure what they would do to fix this issue because they couldn't not fix it first time. Any comments will be highly appreciated. Thanks |

I am dealing with the same Reduced Driver's Assistance error on my 2020 M340. So far they have updated the software and replace a Radar Unit. Neither measure has fixed the problem. They told me they will keep the car for the next several days as they run diagnostics. Sounds like they don't have a clue what is wrong. I've got 1400 miles on this 68K vehicle, I sure hope they figure it out soon. Do I smell lemons??

I don't know how many of you having this problem ordered the factory trailer hitch option. But my car has that. There is an iDrive setting where you can turn on "trailer mode" when you have something hooked up to the hitch. When I turn that on, I get the same reduced driver assistance warnings you're mentioning, but it's by design. If you're pulling a boat or have bikes on a hitch rack, for example the blind spot monitoring frequently "sees" what it thinks are blind spot obstacles and lights up your side view mirror warning, if you don't disable the warning features. So when I get those errors I know it's because I've enabled trailer mode.
I've also gotten a reduced driver assistance message because my front facing camera (for ACC) was dirty. But the error message specifically told me to clean the camera. You may want to dig through your iDrive settings and make sure you're not somehow accidentally enabling trailer mode. I have the "trailer mode on/off" set up as a hot-button on my programmable radio buttons, so it's very easy for me to change without digging through 6 levels of iDrive menus. |

I've recently had these errors pop up in my 2019 M40i. It only happened once and started with the frontal collision warning, followed my many others. I did go to the dealer and they diagnosed it as a faulty radar which they have ordered for replacement. At the same time, they are replacing a faulty light switch due to 3 times that I had peculiar headlight issues going on and off. Both issues occurred about 4 weeks ago and have not reappeared. They've ordered a new light switch and a new radar and it's scheduled for replacement in 3 weeks. (Parts apparently coming from Germany. I'm in Canada).

Just had this message show up two days ago. It pops up on the idrive screen every time I start the car. I have a dealer appointment in two days to get it looked at. 4000 miles on my 2021 to date.

I had the same problem show up on my 2018 X3 2 weeks ago, I did a thorough hand car wash cleaned all the sensors properly. Maybe dirty sensors for some people having the same issue here? I hope problem doesn't return..

Update. The dealership found a permanent camera malfunction and had to replace the KAFAS camera with integrated control unit.

x5 with same issue
Hi,
So I experienced the warning today with my 2019 x5 and will be contacting the dealer, but I actually had something a little scarier happen a day before which was that the car hit the breaks for 5 milliseconds and the "to close to car" lit up. I dismissed this before as I figured a bird must have flown past the sensor, but in combination with the warning I am getting now I am not so sure... T. |

The braking hard is the sensor detecting you're too close to a object or you're coming up too fast on another car that slowed down suddenly. Sometimes mine gets screwed up by rain.. or what I'm assuming was rain. Possibly screwed up by sunlight if it is using the camera? Definitely could be frightening on the first time it happens! |

Driving Assistance Support Reduced
My 2018 X3 appears the message- DRIVING ASSISTANCE SUPPORT REDUCED- when I activate the steering and lane control assistant. I took the car to the dealership 3 times and they couldn't fix it. Now I took it to another dealership and they said it was a problem with a sensor and they wanted to charge me $1,700.00 for the exchange. Has anyone changed the sensor? Thanks

The bracket for the KAFAS camera probably became separated from the glass. Not very common. At least you're getting a free new windshield lol.

JMilagres,
I have a '20 X3 M40i that had "Reduced Driving Assistance" issue early on in ownership (active cruise would turn off even though no one in front of me for a 1/4 mile; would also happen around city with no cruise on). Dealer first said it was Radar unit and replaced it (big $$ item). Came back right away. Couldn't figure out what was wrong. Dealer then had me bring it back when factory tech was at dealership. Tech read computer for info dealer claimed they didn't have access to. Factory tech recommended changing KFAS camera (still $$). Camera replaced, same problem. Factory tech then sent readouts back to Germany. Day later they said to replace an ethernet switch (just a few bucks). Problem solved. Hardly anyone can figure out today's electronics. Hope this helps. |

Had the same issue early on and can't remember what part(s) were eventually replaced. It's been working fine ever since. Only during severe rain or snow storms does this message pop up. |
