How does it have smaller tires than the m40i? I believe m40i has 275 in the rear ?

Interesting clip from that article.

"To handle the extra power and improve the driving experience, engineers worked to stiffen the chassis. But if you place your order after August of this year, you'll have the option of trading your regular front strut brace for a carbon fiber-reinforced plastic one."

It's still more than I can spend, but for those in the market, it's not all doom and gloom imo.

Compared to the $56k 330i they're arguing over on the G20 forum...

Any engine mated to a torque converter auto will have a similarly low redline. Torque converters deform when they spin too fast. That's why some performance cars have lower a redline when mated to an automatic. That's also why I'll be interested to see what the redline of the M3 Pure 6MT will be.

Yea... I'm somewhat puzzled by the 0-60 time quoted by BMW at 4.0s. Let's see what the reviewers say when they have a chance to drive it. Motor Trend is quoting AMG GLC 63S and Alfa Stelvio Q4, at 3.2 and 3.3s respectively.

Why?

It's heavy enough it doesn't need a massive rear tire.. and replacement ones will be significantly more affordable as they are a fairly common size

Torque converters can't spin faster than 7500rpm or so reliably. Certain performance cars have had their redlines electronically limited lower when mated to an automatic. It's possible they'll have a higher redline in the M3 pure.

EDIT: The specs list the motor producing peak power between 5950-7300 rpm although the car has a redline of 7200rpm. That tells me that BMW is using the 7200rpm redling for the ZF 8HP torque converter and that the M3 Pure could potentially have a 7300 or higher redline.

so that tires are more expensive and so the car rides like shit. the 666M rims on the F8x completely ruin that car.

having a 21 inch tire is fucking ridiculous. the X3 already doesnt ride very nice. put it on low pros, it'll ride just as bad if not worse than an F8x on 666Ms

What a shame they keep putting cheap ass ugly as fcuk single piston floating caliper on expensive performance oriented cars/suvs especially the front caliper is big and fixed and 4/6 pistons.

Multi piston rears are just cosmetic on a car with 50% of the weight on the front. I'm fine with them putting the extra money into something that might actually matter.

Wait 4620 lbs? Maybe that's a typo... the G01 M40i is <4300 lbs and the outgoing X5M was only ~100 lbs heavier than the 50i if I remember right.

I agree. Going to be much faster than 4.0s to 60 MPH. The question now is the real weight. Looks like it's going to be the whale in segment even though the Stelvio QV and GLC AMG63 are smaller SAVs.

So it begins.

Previous car replacement plans are in disarray.

Pictures and videos of X3M / X4M will replace Netflix as the top bandwidth consumer.

Statistics aside, both cars fill a very profitable market segment for BMW. I am adding X4M to the shopping list.
