Really like using the Stop/Start button to shut it down and put it in park. I do not remember seeing that in the manual. Must have missed it. Great find from OP. Thanks.

Today I opened my door without unlocking it first. Without getting in or doing anything else I was able to open my windows using the door buttons. Yes, I know I can ventilate by holding down the unlock button, but this was actually easier.

Maybe BMW, with German thoroughness, could take advantage of almost unlimited space available for digital publications to have an advanced tab, if necessary, and include a lot more detail about the effect of various settings and other information that I have trouble finding.

Noticed that my navigation is memorizing my routes.. I always like using navigation even though I don't need it. Due to Pokemon Go, I take some back routes that are not as efficient of a route to my destination. I noticed that my navigation is now recommending that path I drive instead of the direct route I should take if I was in a hurry. Thought that was interesting..

Also I learned that the alarm will go off if you lock the doors with the keys and you left a passenger just sitting in the car. Not sure what exactly sets it off.. maybe gesture control sensor?

More likely the movement sensor. Next timel press the lock button within 10 seconds after the first lock to disable it.

Not sure if its been mentioned before but,,,,,, if the passenger has the heated seat on then gets out it (with engine still running) it automatically turns off, drivers side does the same.

I was in a BMW store today and noticed this in a 2020 M40i.

I wonder if this control over ASD is new to iDrive 7 or was simply surfaced in iDrive 7. I'll bet the underlying FDL codes exist in iDrive 6 though I have no idea where to look for them.

If we could find them, pre-2020 owners could have the same controls (though not as conveniently accessible), possibly even convincing the BimmerCode author to include them in a update.

I don't know that I've noticed being able to hear outside noises more toward the rear Vs the front windows, but the front windows are definitely different, featuring a U-shaped edge. I've never had a car with that so I chalked it up to the acoustic glass, then found that the rear windows' edge lacked that characteristic, appearing to be a more traditional car window.

You cannot. As Almaretto noted, the hardware in the 2020 MY is different than in the preceding MYs. 2018-2019 X3 has a dedicated ASD module in the trunk next to the amplifier. The 2020 X3 has the ASD integrated into the head unit. That is why the ASD menu is available in the 2020 X3 but not the 2018-2019 X3. I can point you to the settings that control the ASD menu shown in post #975 above. If you code them on a 2019 X3, nothing will happen (I tried). If you want to get rid of ASD, my recommendation is to install the Technic ASD bypass harness (https://technicpnp.com/product/asd-bypass-harness/). It takes less than 10 minutes to do it and ASD will be gone forever.

Dumb question: can you lock the door upon exiting the vehicle by just pushing the "lock" button on the door? Mine does not respond. I can only lock it using the FOB...is this a setting or something. I apologize if it was discussed before. I had no luck using the search function.

Sounds like you have a sensor issue, control unit issue, it was disabled or your touching the wrong location.

Just about everyone whom commented on this reported having the system working properly. I suggest you experiment with stopping your car closer to the one in front (maybe half a car length) and let the radar sensor 'sees' the car in front.

if it still won't work after trying a few more times, then you might want to get it checked out by your dealer. Hope this helps.
I met the same scenario, and finally read this doc after your discussion.

Well, touching the wrong location is not it. Must be something else. It does not lock with our without FOB nearby...

It is the wrong location
That one is for locking the car from inside, not when you're coming out :

The rest of the world (outside the US) tries to make it difficult to lock your keys in the car..

Ha, no arguments there...in the non-FOB car I have (2006 Mustang) you CAN lock the door with the door lock button as you step out--thus the possibility of locking your self-out if (keys left inside) is there.

Cant lock myself out in the M40i or my Expedition King Ranch (on this one I can lock the door with the FOB inside, but the door will automatically unlock it self once it detects FOB left behind.

Gotta love it....

You can not lock the doors if any of the doors are open. The inside lock button is only for when the doors are shut and you are locking/unlocking for a passenger or someone to get in or out.

This feature prevents unintended lock out.

I discovered today that if the rear wiper is engaged it speeds up automatically when you put the X3 in reverse. Thought that was a nice touch.

And yes, I just now found this out after almost 10 months of ownership...we don't get much rain here in Phoenix!
