Just to tie this up - my car went in to Cotswold BMW Cheltenham today, had a new wireless charging tray fitted, and now seems to work perfectly.

Although the car is booked in again in 3 weeks for a left hand stalk issue... it keeps randomly turning off my adaptive headlights, or resetting my trip meter, or changing my display from odo to fuel economy and so on.

Stuck button on the stalk? You must have very strong fingers

Seriously, good to hear that they fixed your wireless charger. The stalk replacement should be fairly easy...

It's both buttons, but it's also the stalk itself - a couple of times it's only given me 1 wink instead of 3 when i've gone for a lane change. Apparently there is a steering column controller and that has faults logged so they are going to examine that and the stalk itself next time the car goes in.
They've booked me a courtesy car for 2 days (rather than the usual few hours).

Good luck, and hopefully it's not something more serious such as a shorted steering column. You don't want to see your steering wheel moving like as if it were possessed...

Please share your experience here, let's see if we can find any patterns:

Car: 2019 X3 M40i
Phone: iphone 8, iphone Xs (both in genuine Apple silicon cases)
Problem: inconsistent charging - sometimes charges fine (blue light), often doesn't charge at all (orange light), and yet the cheap chinese wireless charger i use overnight at home works perfectly with both 'phones.
Car: 2019 X5 50i

When I place my iPhone XS on the tray, it starts Apple Pay on my phone however no charge. When I place my work phone, a Note 9 no charge either. No other indicator lights on the wireless charger.

Mine is still working great and I LOVE IT!

I bet these guys are the ones who supply BMW with theirs. It's literally an OEM fit.

You know the Chinese manufacturing can make good copies of virtually anything, right? Sometimes, the copies can be even better than the OEM pieces in terms of quality and functionality

I'm taking my car to BMW service tomorrow. I told them there might be a recall on the wireless charging pads so let's see what they say.

I took my car to dealership last wkk, they did not solve the problem but they gave me a copy of a service buleltin from BMW that they know this issue has been happening from other BMW owners, I will take a screenshot of the document they gave me it;s in my car. It’s something about the phone is reaching a certain tempetue i guess 104F and to protect the phone and charger it has to stop charging until it cools down. I told the dealership people that I guess buying a $500 wireless charger when I purchased the car makes no since if I can’t charge my phone. I have a $20 ANker charger at home and it works perfect.

I did say it wasn't until 8/8 plus Apple added wireless charging

All the charging cases do is connect to the phones charging socket just as you would with any normal charging cable so would be the same risk

Even BMW sell a charging case for some older iPhones

That would be great. I took the car to the dealer and they recognized there is a problem; however, they have not received any recall notices for the X4 as of now. Hopefully this will help expedite things.

They say they will need to keep the car for 3-5 days of testing in order to get the warranty claim approved by BMW, and of course then need to wait to order the new one :-(

Here is the copy of the print out they gave me. I have updated my ioS last night thinking it will solve the issue but failed. I'm still getting an orange light after some time driving....
unfortunately the file type is too big and upload is not possible. sorry folks.

Can you take a screen shot of it on your iPhone and upload that through app?

Thanks! Wonder why it shuts off iPhones but not Samsung phones.

I just plugged in a small wireless charger in the usb outlet (yes, I have a wireless charger on top of the existing factory wireless charger since the factory one always turns orange) and that works fine even when connected to CarPlay.

I called the BMW customer service complaint division and filed a complaint that this is garbage. I bought a car couple of months ago & now the wireless charger is not working properly yet you will just give me a print out prolly just a copy and pste from wikipedia and yet you will tell me that there is no problem with the charger. I hope I will get a reply from the corporate too.
