2019 X3 M40i Lighting Malfunction

Receiving a lighting malfunction message almost daily. Seems to happen after driving the car, parking for around 5-10 minutes, then restarting and the message appears. Turn signals, and most other exterior lights don't work while the message displays, then it clears itself. This has been happening almost daily. The car only has 600 miles on it. After 3 days at the dealership, they couldn't find the problem and returned it to me. Then it happened again on the way home. Taking it back to the dealership this week, as they are escalating to BMW NA engineers.

Anyone else experiencing anything like this? I'm beginning to think this car is a lemon, but dealership and BMW NA has to go through the motions to get to that conclusion.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Just a faulty light. Unfortunately it's quite advanced and complex, and expensive, so of course they want to try to fix instead of replace it.

Thanks, and looks like that's the direction they're heading. After 12 days between 2 visits at the dealership, multiple escalations to Regional then BMW NA technicians they are ordering and replacing with a new light and lighting control module. It seems it should be a bit simpler and faster to repair a bad light. Hope this fixes it, but even now they aren't completely sure.

It's amazing how simple malfunctions have such broad impact on so many other functions. If that happened at night, you wouldn't be able to drive. There are so many electrical gremlins with these cars that I'm starting to lose faith/trust in mine. It seems like its only a matter of time before the latest thread title becomes my problem too.

Wanted to give an update on this issue. After another week at the dealership, it seems BMW NA nor my dealer can fix the lighting issue. They've replaced all lights in the front of the car, left lighting control module, another control module that i didn't even understand what its purpose was and the same exact issue still occurs. The next step they want to try is replacing the entire wiring harness in the car, which involves taking the car apart. Needless to say, we're now having a different conversation. They will be taking this car back with only 600 miles and 6 weeks old. Hoping to get confirmation from BMW NA early next week. Can't believe a faulty light can't be fixed, but obviously it can't.

My Mini Cooper has the same issue but ONLY when turning hard under braking condition. I have changed out ALL lights and cleaned all contacts and still gives a lighting error. I am willing to bet you have a pinched wire somewhere. If the dealer knew what they were doing, should be an easy fix as this seems to be a hard failure.
