defeats the purpose of having a M2/3/4 in North America with the horrendous weather...I want one... very impressive numbers for a SUV

You pays your money and takes your choice.

You are going to have to really need the extra load space to choose this over an M3, especially when the new one hits the streets.

I needed a car for my dog and although I looked at an X5M (it didn't do it for me), went the C63S route. I love it, that I have the different engines and power deliveries of the F80 (with MPE, before you start talking about the sound) and the V8 of the AMG with its monster torque - 700Nm (516 ft-lb).

The X3M doesn't look that special does it?

There ARE cops ahead. ALWAYS deviate from the normal route on these dealer/m town/ofest events with test drives.

In dallas, the cops LOVE to set up an ambush near the end of the rout and literally trail the test drive car right back to the lot with lights on so they can embarrass the idiots driving like racers on these test drives.

That’s why I turned the Nav off after I pulled out. Went on my “Dragy Route”. A 3.9 second grocery getter is going to be the perfect addition to the F90 and the Turbo S. Looks great, handles great and runs great !

Hope you love it. It looks like a sweet ride, keep us posted when you take delivery.

An an F85 owner i see a lot to like in the X3M personally...very stout performance for a reasonable price (understanding that price is subjective). I'll definitely give it a try when I'm shopping for the next ride.

It sounds almost identical to M3/M4 Comp and I'm aware the engine isn't fully warmed up. Even in the video that was shared in page 2 it sounds pretty much like a comp pack S55. This video:

https://www.facebook.com/13190877016...0809?sfns=xmwa

I'm surprised how many people think it sounds amazing. Not saying it sounds horrible but if I listened to the sound clip without seeing the video, my first guess would be an M3/M4 Comp.

I've never understood the logic of revving a cold engine but I'd have to hear it's fully warm to understand exactly how close they are.

I've only revved my engine cold when I was drunk

It’s got a proper engine, a proper drive train, proper suspension dynamics, proper exhaust (the flappable performance exhaust with the button in the console, which as far as I remember is the FIRST TIME EVER in a BMW, no? Maybe the new m5 has it as well, still finally BMW, Porsche and AMG have been doing this for a while now) and most importantly for any SUV that wears an M badge, MASSIVE floating two piece rotors all around to bring it to a stop. Full software flexibility for day to day or beast modes, proper seats, steering, HUD with RPM. Tires are a bit narrow I suppose, but maybe the lab coats calculated it’s better for M AWD diffs. That’s what an M car is, what more would you like? .... if you don’t like the g01/g02 platforms that’s another story.

The x4m competition is going to be a BEAST in real life, that will take on any super sport sedan with ease.

Since when was a torque converter automatic a proper M transmission
Look we have an enthusiast here!

The debate about which is faster and has better fuel economy has been settled long ago. Sadly your version of "what a real m-car is" is subjective and outmoded.

You know what? I was actually relieved to not have to hear "what are you going to do to it?" after trading my M4. "Nothing dude, it's perfect"

X4M is gorgeous, especially in red.

Sadly all the real enthusiasts have been replaced by lazy snowflakes who need the car to drive itself.
Cool...I bought mine outright...no leaser here.

And sadly....you're the segment Corporate probably cares about the least...

While they will sound better, be more luxurious, more spacious and maybe look more aggressive. They will also be more expensive and heavier. The latter of which you'll definitely feel around corners. There are definitely more pros than cons but still cons nonetheless.

I'm fortunate to have a I-6 F83 and V-8 F85, both of best worlds. Not 'pure' track cars for a HDPE, but I'd rather beat up BMW M's cars.

Since the ZF 8 speed started kicking serious ass... the gear shift times are insignificantly slower than a DCT, it can take a shit ton more torque (particularly important for AWD drivetrains) and its behaviour can be drastically adapted with software mapping.

But again, this isn't an argument unique to X3/X4Ms.. the new M5 also has a ZF torque converter...
