Hello, I will be due to replace all 8 of my pads and all 4 rotors in around 2000 miles. I have around 18000 miles on them currently.

Anyone know where I can get aftermarket pads that are better than oem? I just don't want any squeeling noise. Also I am looking for slotted rotors any brands that makes them for the g01?

Why do you need to change the rotors at 18000? They should be good for at least double that, the rears probably more than triple!

I tend to do a lot of heavy traffic stop and go driving that's really bad for my MPG and brakes .

I saw on the BMWparts website that these cars uses the same rotors as the G01 X3m40i:
530e Sedan. Required: 1
530eX Sedan. Required: 1
530i Sedan. Required: 1
530iX Sedan. Required: 1
540dX Sedan. Required: 1
640iX Automatic (B58). Required: 1
740eX Automatic (B48X) Sedan. Required: 1
740i Automatic (B58) Sedan. Required: 1
740iX Automatic (B58) Sedan. Required: 1
740i Automatic (B58) Sedan. Required: 1
740eX Automatic (B48X) Sedan. Required: 1
740iX Automatic (B58) Sedan. Required: 1

Can I go on another website and order slotted rotors for the 5 series and it will fit the X3M40i 2018 G01?

I meant with heavy use. With light use they'd last about 4 times that!

Are you sure the front rotor thickness is down to 28.4mm? And have you gone through 2 sets of pads? Each pair of rotors should last for 2 sets of pads regardless of the type of use.

I'll check my rotor thickness today, I went through one set of pads. They wore at the same rate in front as in the back.

Yeah, this seems a bit excessive. I drive the 401 every day and it's stop/go for 50kms each way. I've never replaced pads (or rotors) under 60,000kms...

You must be really stomping down on your brakes all day long lol

EDIT: try Zimmermann brand for rotors if you don't want OEM. Pads, I don't have a recommendation. I'm sure others will chime in

Sorry 28.4mm was for F30 m sport discs!

X3 m sport front discs start at 36mm and minimum is 34.4mm

Rear starts at 24mm, minimum is 22.4mm

Thank you for this info, what is the source?

Wow I can't believe the maximum wear is 1.6mm. I must be very close to that or on it... for the pads I still have 30% left on them.

It's on all the aftermarket rotor specs, see pic below

So are they the first set of pads? Are the rotors heavily lipped?

Wow. I would suspect you can get a lot more from your rotors. I put 55,000 miles on my M3 and over 40 days at the track with track pads and I still did not wear out original rotors. But I did go thru multiple track pads and one set of OEM pads.
I'm planning on not needing any brake maintenance in the first 40,000 miles.

Thanks! Yes they're piped pretty bad. I suspect around 1mm per side... I really want to go slotted or drilled for aesthetic purposes!

The M3 weights around 400kilos less and have bigger rotors for more aggressive stopping power. On my 135i, the brakes would last me 40000 miles!

I can’t find any slotted or drilled aftermarket ones. I’d advise against slotted discs though, they make a lot of noise.

If you go through a set of rotors in less than 20k miles, that may mean your pads are eating the rotors for lunch. The last thing I would want to do is to put drilled discs there and risk getting them worn out even faster, or worse, cracked.

I think these newer cars go thru brakes more than the older cars because of electronic differential applies brakes to inside wheels a lot. And the rear brakes wear much faster than they used to.

Hi,
Our ML63 that we had before our X3M40i used to eat rear brake pads.
Like our BMW - the ML had automatic cruise control.
We are not heavy brakers - but the car is automatically applying the brakes regularly to control the speed when the ACC is switched on.
As we do a lot of motorway driving - we use the ACC virtually all the time.
First set of rear pads wore away in 18,000km - that was a real shock!
Over a period of 44 months and covering 108,000km (67100 miles) - we got through many sets of pads and replaced front and rear rotors once.
Every time we replaced pads - we had the rotors refaced.
We changed the rotors once they got to minimum thickness.
We used a German specialist to do the work - rather than the Mercedes dealer - but still spent a total of $4000 on parts and labour over our owenership period.
Modern, performance SUVs with auto cruise will certainly eat brakes, it seems!
Luckily - in Abu Dhabi, new BMW cars are supplied with an 8 year/160,000km service and maintenance package that includes brakes - so no more costs there!
Cheers
Steve

Nice comments. I don't use ACC much since I found them doing too much of alternating between 'applying gas throttle to catch up to the car in front' and 'applying brake to maintain distance away from the same car', without letting the car to coast naturally like I would normally do myself (and I would tolerate some variation in distance between the cars). This basically translates to using your gasoline unnecessarily to wear out the brakes. So unless I'm really tired I don't use ACC much.

Actually the opposite, the X3 has ‘performance control’ which applies more power to the outside wheels rather than braking the inside wheels. Also these modern cars have brake energy regeneration, which further reduces the amount the brakes are used.

Hi,
We tend to use ACC as a defence mechanism - due to the way other drivers switch lanes suddenly and swerve in front of you!
It’s an added layer of safety - also bear in mind motorway speed limit is 140km/h (87mph) and you can overtake from either side!
Cheers
Steve

The OEM front discs for M40i/d are Brembo I thought?

Brembo make the calipers, but I'm not sure who makes the discs, they're just stamped with BMW
