Stability

Wanted some owner opinions...

I test drove the X3M at the M Tour event and while I loved everything else about the car, I was surprised by a feeling of twitchy-ness at 60+mph. Typically M cars feel very tied down at speed but there was a sense of instability that was strange. I'm wondering if it was just that car...that's likely been beaten on for months...or if others are feeling the same. Any feedback you can share?

I didn't find that at all, even on the track at much higher speeds it was rock solid stable. How was the vehicle setup in-terms of the driver configurable options? That could be one reason, tire pressure could be another.

I was into triple digits on a test drive and noticed no lack of stability at all. To the contrary, I had little sensation of being at such speed - it was quite serene.

To be fair to the question ... what were the symptoms of twitchy behavior?

This will be important to know.

I値l say M Town seemed to be hard on the cars, people were beating on the cars like it was their last day alive. We literally had a police helicopter show up, I知 assuming because so many locals around the dealership complained about ll the M cars flying around all day but I really loved the event and hope they continue doing similar events!

I bring this up because I知 betting the one OP drove had an alignment issue or something like that which was causing an abnormal feeling.

i have a one week old X3M and am surprised at how well it handles at speed. vastly vastly better than the regular X3. when i picked my car up from the dealer two tires were at 47psi... i wonder if the car you drove might have had too much air?

Incorrect tire pressure can certainly alter the vehicle handling by quite a bit.

Gonna second this - I haven't checked tire pressure but I've done 500 miles in my X3MC and it is probably the most stable, solid feeling vehicle I've been in. 80-90mph is super smooth.

Which dealer was this at? I did my drives at BMW of El Cajon. The suggested route took us west on I-8 and north on the 125. Less than a mile past the entrance ramp to the 125 there was a cop sitting on the side of the freeway. I'm glad I saw him first! I didn't see any helicopters. I mentioned this to the people administering the drives and other people had already reported it.

When I was driving the M2 Comp going south on Cuyamaca someone in a M-B C250 tried to race me! That was hilarious!
