Clunking over bumps

My 2015 X3 2.8 with 80,000 km has developed a clunking noise when going over bumps. It sounds very similar to a loose hitch in a receiver. This is actually what I thought it was at first, but I removed my hitch and it’s still there. It seems to be coming from the rear, but I can’t be certain. Any ideas?

I have exact same problem with my '16 x3 d. Clunky noise not consistent but mostly occurs when going over bumps or uneven surface at slow speed. Thinking of visiting dealer next month.

I thought I was having the same issue with my 2016 Sdrive28i until I discovered the noise I was hearing was actually the rear seat backs. Specifically where the 60/40 section comes together. If you bang on them, you can hear the noise. This might not be what you are hearing, but that's what my "rear suspension noise" turned out to be.

Maybe some felt tape would work to quell the noise.

I don’t have all the details yet, but apparently the clunk was coming from 1 of 2 front end suspension components that needs replacing. Parts are ordered, but I’m a bit perplexed on why these items need replacing on a vehicle with 75,000 km.

Yeah, 75,000km (~47k miles) is not very many to be having that kind of part go bad.

It's what's so frustrating about noises like that. You thought it was in the rear and it turned out to be coming from the front. Or at least they have discovered something wrong with components in the front. I hope their solution solves your problem.

So......the parts that needed replacing were the sway bar link on the RHS and the tie rod end on the LHS. Luckily, under warranty, but really? At 75,000 km?

Parts ware out, you could have hit a bump the wrong way or going too fast and the shock tweaked the part. You're under warranty, be happy!
