Experiences with Lift Kits?

This post is about raising, not lowering.

I've ordered Eibach Pro-Lift-Kit (raises up to 30mm) and Bilstein B6 Offroad shocks. Checked with manufacturers to make sure they play together appropriately, at least by specification. Intent is to have the X3 be ever so slightly more usable off-road. Maybe the whole thing will ride better, who knows.

Any thoughts or opinions?

I had the same thought in mind. I purchased the lift kit and Bilstein B6 shocks/struts. The local tire dealer order a larger tire ~5% with an all terrain tread. Between the lift kit and tires I would have increased the ground clearance by about 2 inches, total ~<10inches. We did a trial fitting of the new front tires. Just not enough clearance without cutting part of the inner fender. Without spare time to give it, i just said screw it and installed the shocks/struts with new Bridgestone run flats. There is a guy with an X1 in Los Angeles that posts somewhere, sorry forgot what forum that "off roaded" it with Eibach, etc. Really liked the outcome. BTW, the B6 is not an "off road" shock/strut. It is a performance shock. Thought so at first also. Car handles MUCH better with the B6 shocks/struts.

Thanks for the input. I figured to just stay with the OEM 19" wheels and not get too aggressive with tires. And the worst that can happen is better handling as you experienced. Did you wind up not installing the Eibach springs?

I've been interested in doing this to my x4 since seeing an off-road style X6. I settled for larger tires for now. Sits about an inch higher, and rubbed just a bit but I eventually cut out part of the fender liner. It's replaceable should I ever want to go back to stock. [IMG][/IMG]

But on the point of riding better - I can only speak for tires, but it rides much, much better on bigger tires.

Not that I've noticed, to be honest. I'm sure if you went and tested it there might be a difference, but it's negligible if so and offset by how much less unstrung weight there is without such heavy wheels at all four corners. I do long, hour+ highway drives pretty often, and the car is smooth, quiet, and stable at 80 mph. Our roads are pretty good, but the tires soak up whatever imperfections there are. Even so, I may go back to 19s or 20s in the future with the tires a single size larger than stock, just to change up the look.

Any updates on the lift kit? I'm interested in seeing pictures, since I'm not sure if the X4 is too narrow to pull off the lifted look.

Any updates here? Really considering a small lift, but I think I would need wider tires to balance out the look and that's not in the budget right now.

Mine has the 18inch wheels. Has anyone ever put larger tires without lifting it.
I was thinking maybe 255/55r18

I've got some brand new Eibach Pro-Lift-Kit springs that I'm not going to use. I'll sell them to you for cheap. PM me.

Hey guys, I see some wondering about bigger tire sizes. I also was looking to make my x3 more offroad capable, and started with the tires. With installing 2" spacers, I fit 245/65/17s on, with just the slightest tire rub at full turn, and i'd say that without a lift thats probs the biggest that will fit. Im alsoo interested in lifting it, so if anyone knows any spacific part; springs, spacers, struts, plz let me know

this is what it looks like with new tires and spacers

Thought I’d bring this thread back to life with some visuals

Just installed 4x 265/50R19 on my 2012 X3 35i and she rubs on the drivers side on left lock.
SO I’m looking at raising it a little to fix this issue.
When I bought this vehicle I had 245/45 on stock 19” wheels now I have 19” Apex Arc-8s 9.5” wide and a ET 22 offset all around. Looks fantastic and rides so well, also entry height is perfect, not climbing into the seat. I’m 5’10” and it’s an easy side step into the vehicle.

Has anyone done the lift springs?

Also has anyone heard of these spacers that go between your springs and struts eliminating the need for lift springs. They say they are manufacturer Ok'd

Installed 245-55-18 on my 2017. Went with the General G-Max Justice, all season. Use my X-3 quite a bit off-roading in So. Cal. deserts. Am an avid quail and chukar hunter. Slightly more ground clearance and much improved ride.

What about combining the raised springs with strut spacers to try and get more than 30mm?
