G01 rear brake pads

I am going to attempt to replace rear pads myself, I was wondering if the parking brakes are drums inside the disc or are they the newer electronically managed ones? If so, what are the procedures to release and compress the piston?

The calipers are the handbrake, they’re just fairly standard floating calipers afaik. The pads are stuck to the caliper with 3M tape though, so you need to make sure the mounting surface is very clean and then hold your foot on the brake for a minute to stick them properly.

Great thanks! It's the first time I see pads attached with 3m. Did you do your rear pads yourself on the G01?

No, I just read a bit about the G30 brakes, which are the same the G01.

I’d also make sure the adhesive pads are at least 25°C before sticking them.

The calipers have to be wound back in. F-series with electronic parking brakes could be done manually, removing the motor. There is comment that the G-series (like the G30) require connection to diagnostics, to do it successfully. Not sure of the facts, and whether there is a DIY fix like the F-series examples.

Crikey, glad you stepped in Pete, I hadn't read about that!

I have Carly for bmw, when I connect it, says my g01 doesn't have the actuator to electronically wind. I'll try with a torx screw.
