Electroplated Controls - US
Is anyone else in the US disappointed we don't get the option for the electroplated controls?
They are around the air/radio controls, start/stop button and window switches. I just wonder why BMW NA decides not to make these an option. I like them and would spec them if possible.

We have the option here in UK but I have not added them. Think it makes the dash too fussy and I don't like the red/silver contrast. One of the cheaper options here (£110) so I would imagine you could order the parts separately for a reasonable amount if you wanted to.

I wouldn’t mind the option being available, but I wouldn’t choose them.

Believe me, the US market dodged a bullet in not having these silver buttons - or "galvanic embellishes" as BMW calls them - available in your market. Here in Australia they are standard on our 30i and 30d variants and they look bloody awful - what was BMW Australia thinking? They look like something from a far cheaper Asian-built car from the 90s. And there's no option to remove them. The plain white-on-black buttons are far more stylish and deserving of a car at this price point.

Agree with the others they look cheap and ruin that area of the otherwise pretty nice and minimalistic interior.

Yeah, just baffling to me that BMW cars are spec'ed so differently and available options are so different in different regions. Anyone who knows anything about quality know that such variation adds cost and lowers quality control. I understand regional laws that might impact things like air bags and reflector colors, but the cosmetic stuff is just dumb business IMHO. (I do prefer the black ones, though, so no harm done in this case.)

Here in Ireland (and I presume the UK) if you add Active Cruise you have to add these 'galvanic' buttons, very strange!
The dealer X3 had black buttons but I got a look at a 7 series and they really looked out of place on that.
