They're... Ok. Better than Rolex in my opinion. Based on those two, I would say your aesthetic is a good match for Audemars Piguet or maybe a nice Vacheron Overseas. The Gen IIs have become quite reasonable. I would try not to stray too far from the stalwarts, although there are some great independents and up and coming brands. Send me a picture of ones you like and I'll make specific recommendations. The boutiques along 5th Ave are awesome. Wempe, Cellini. Stay away from Tourneau, unless you are looking at preowned and know what you are looking for and at.

Edit: ooh. Don't see the QDL preowned very often. You may like this too: http://www.exquisitetimepieces.com/p...tainless+Steel
12k for a preowned watch? I drive an M2 not a Bugatti.

Oh... sorry. The Panerais and Hublots I was thinking of are in this range too. Heh. That was me trying to be reasonable. I was thinking a 4:1 ration of watch to handbag was fair and reasonable. My wallet cost under $200. Heh.

Except for my M2 and that hurt.

You're 26. These things take time. I am... not 26. I think Aatish may have had a Patek or 2 just fall out of his pocket when he was getting out of the Ferrari... or maybe check under the seat of his Rolls.

PS: Aatish - get a Dawn bro. You're young...

$5-$7K eh? Hmmm... personally, I would avoid Hublot. But that is just me. Panny at least has horological credentials. Honestly, even though it does not enjoy the same cachet in some circles, I would probably get a nice Omega if this is the aesthetic you are looking at. Maybe a Zenith or, for dress, a Grand Seiko. (I know what you are thinking... Grand Seiko is not "just" a Seiko... they are a sleeper that pack a lot of value and are actually very interesting with a pretty awesome tradition.)

You seem to be on the right path! I think I am, too. I am a relatively patient person. Sometimes.

You're right. I guess I just get anxious sometimes.

Haha, yes he is certainly a special case. I hope to own a Patek or Lange before 40. You think I can do it?

+1. No Hublot. Just go Richard Mille.

I wear a paracord bracelet because I'm too poverty striken to afford a watch.

Of course you can, if that is your priority. There is a new Vacheron out that I want, but I got the M2 instead. Not sure I made the right decision - heh. Just kidding - I love the M2. The difference is, of course, that in 10-20 years, the watch will be worth considerably more than the car #depreciation.

I'm already CPA. I'm also starting a CFP course next week and I'll hopefully get that license later this year (after passing the exam). So technically, if I wanted to start my own practice, I would be able to make significantly more money but I'm not sure I really want to get into that for now.

Richard Mille - go for Frank Muller. If you don't mind pre-owned, here's a nice piece for the ladies... Caution... this would fall into their "Above $20,000" category.

I think there's more pressure/expectation for men to have a nice watch collection than for women. Almost every brand makes automatics for men, makes a quartz ladies version. Wtf?

Wow, great stuff! Proud of you. As long as you've got options, which is the most important thing.

Well fuck.

That's not TOO much more than $20K. Give or take some zeroes.

Well.. I thought about possibly making conversation with her, but what could I gain from this? Not weight, hopefully.
