I think also it depends on the type of tint. If you have a dyed film it will be much darker than for example a ceramic film which lets in more light but reduces heat. I only ever encounter this issue in one particular situation and only realized it in the last week or two. At a stop light and sun off to my upper right (about 5pm on west coast) I noticed my display dims the slightest bit. Nothing as dim as some of the examples displayed in this thread.

I'm just wondering why the heck there is a thumbwheel to control brightness (like every other BMW I have have) but it doesn't do anything.
Why can't you control the brightness anymore, like everything else with display… |

The thumb-wheel to control instrument panel brightness only works when it's dark outside. FYI - I have the same dimming issue with no tint... 2020-x3.

I'm on the same boat. One dealer refused to even touch it and gave me some BS explanation... I have a scheduled visit for July 19 with the original dealer where i bought the car. I still think it's all related to faulty components. I'll keep you posted.

Not every owner will notice the display brightness dimming. It's not always dimmed to the lowest setting. |

Seems they tried everything to fix it - I give them high marks for that. Got the car back - guess what - still happening. I cant live with it and seem to have no recourse with BMW from what I read on these forums - so I have to get rid of it. Its a CPO bought in January of this year. |

Never had the issue on my stock '18 x3. However….
Last month they updated the software due to replacement of other parts. Now i also have the dimming issue. It is a bit annoying when trying to use the parking camera's, but ill get over it. Point is, im also sure its a software problem in that wasent present in the old software (also my steering wheel heater is much warmer now) |

I had my instrument cluster replaced - the issue remains!
My G01 2020 stoof at the dealer for a few days, they tried to adjust the sensor's but zero results. Then I had my ID7 instrument panel fully replaced under warranty, but zero success again. BMW does not seems to be interested in acknowledging the problem, I already sent them this forum's link, many other I have found too and told them that ultimately this is a safety issue as I/some of us can barely see the displays under certain lighting conditions.
I absolutely hate this "feature" or whatever this s**t is called! |
