Installed new metal back DRL’s 5/22, still going strong 7/9. This time I used actual thermal glue/paste opposed to thermal tape the first installation.

im truly living the bmw driver stereo type of the asshole that doesn't use his turn signals.

Spoke to IND (great customer service per usual) , they are sending out replacement boards so hopefully this should be resolved soon.

Metal backed boards? Or the prior gen?

Hey Supa you've been following this pretty closely, I went through this thread and others and it doesn't really look like there's a confirmed working version. I think maybe two people have had the V2 version working for a few months now without issues. Is this where you're at as well? For background I have a 20' M340I with laser lights and got some replacement boards coming in from ICE EXPRESS. Once those come in I plan on doing the best install I can and using thermal paste or pads and monitoring stuff closely.

Yep, following super closely these days. I’m not sure what version I’d consider myself running, but metal-backed as of 6/5. No issues to date, installed with thermal paste. My assumption is that anything non-metal-backed is going to fail 100%.

Got a picture of the board before install?

Sorry for the late reply, I honestly dont know if they are metal backed or not. I had them shipped directly to the installer. Im getting my replacements put in on the 27th, they were also shipped directly from IND to A&L, but I'll ask to see which ones they both are. Hoping the replacement set resolves this issue.

Just dropped off the car and I had a chance to take a look at the replacement boards. They are metal backed.

Installed v2 on driver side today. Install went super quick. No need to remove front bumper or headlight

FYI for anyone installing these new ones with the metal backing, I suggest mixing a 50/50 or 75% plaster to 25% CPU thermal paste ratio to help increase heat transfer to the heat sink. The stock plaster isn't the best at it.

Did you have issues with the stock plaster, or is that just what you recommend?

How about 100% (better quality) cpu thermal paste instead? Is the plaster that comes from aliexpress necessary at all?

No that won't work, you need something that will act as an adhesive to hold that board to the heatsink. If there's a product that's better then use it by all means but that ratio is one way I heard of someone addressing the issue.

What is the issue that you're referring to? If it's related to the plaster's performance I assume you're referencing a burned chipset?

Okay, looks like LCI boards do not use any screw to hold them in place on heatsink housing.

And looks like the pre-LCI boards uses screws to hold them down.

No there aren't any screws, not on the G20 or X3's, there are little pins that the board sits on that align it. No mechanical fastening

FWIW, on my pre-LCI, there are two screws on each boards to hold to the heatsink housing.

FWIW, I used adhesive tape on the V2 boards that I installed back in June I haven't had an issue since. With the V1 boards, I found out they threw a shadow code with the turn signal LED temperature being "implausible" before completely burning out. Two weeks ago I double checked and didn't see such a code so I assumed they were to spec. I'll keep an eye on them periodically but so far so good.

I have a G01 X3 pre LCI just wanted to see if anyone can report that their leds are still working without any issues? And any recommended vendors that can ensure I won’t get codes?

I reached out to IND a couple months ago and they said pre LCI has no issues but I personally had the problem on a very early set of boards from Icedriver. I do really miss the look of the yellow drls though

Yes. I sold my X3M. The boards I have, had no issues. No codes. I am selling the boards with the housing. That way you don’t have to worry about prying out the stock OEM boards and potentially ruining them.
