thank god the kidney grills are not upside down. they are rather large though. and fake trapezoidal rear exhaust on msport? looks to be two different vehicles as one is the standard trim and the other being the msport. i cant tell which is the rear of which though. i see real circular exhaust tips on one of them but i think thats the standard trim.

I'm liking the lines on this new X3. I have to say I really miss the glass globe in the headlights. The LED internal looks "cheap" to me.

I wonder what the X3 will be able to tow.

I'm looking into a 18-20ft bow rider... nothing huge, but still probably at least 4k lbs between boat and trailer... hoping that it can handle it. Dont really want/need something the size of the X5.

Can't wait to see how the X3M turns out. Hope it debuts soon after the X3.

I hope you are anticipating " soon after" to be precisely 1 year later.. just like the typical M car rollout no?

I am still hoping that BMW will surprise us all and release the X3M now. June 26th is right around the corner and the mules have been seen testing for almost 2 years now. At the minimum, I'm in for a loaded M40i and look forward to the reveal.
Actually we DO need something better than the stock halogens. The looks of them is one thing, but the lack of light output at highways at night is just scary bad

I know. BMW doesn't realize how many people buy the c300 over the 330i simply because of this. It makes a huge difference.

Definitely agree!!! I've got a 18' F80 M3 on order. Mid next year I planned on getting an X5 as well... but if the X3M turns out badass, I may have to go that route instead!

Was it supposed to have grown? Why would we assume it'd be the same as the X5? (No sarcasm intended, seriously an educational question)

The X3 gets bigger with every generation and has becomes the size of the previous X5 time and time again.

Yes, cars get bigger for each generation. The F30 is as big as a 7 series... from the 70's.
And naturally the X3 will grow as well, but as big as the X5, sure - soon it will be as the original X5, the E53. But i have serious doubt wether this next up and coming generation will be as big as the E53, likely smaller still. Having said that, it looks very similar to the LCI F25 on these images, i think that's a good thing, i expect alot of good things from the new version. Comparing it to the F type is a joke, the new X3 will drive all over it, the Jag is really old tech compared to the BMW, but i guess some will only see what you want to see in the end.

It's larger in the rear that is for sure.
Looks like it is going to be a baby x5.

The real question is how the 100% Electric version will do against the i-Pace!?

I could see why you would disagree on the Range Rover Sport tho.

I'm most interested in the performance of this vehicle.

Just a quick reference the x4 m40i (4,235 lbs on Car & Driver) manged to run a 0 - 60 in 4.4 secs. If the x3 m40i is shedding ~100 kgs from previous gen that weighed 4,230 lbs is this car going to be a 4.3 or better car?!

I'd be very surprised.

The X3's shape and lines can all now be seen through the thin camouflage film that remains. Stay tuned to BIMMERPOST as the X3 will have its world debut within the next 1-2 weeks and production begins August!

Updated May 6, 2016 with most revealing photos yet of exterior and interior:

The next gen X3 (G01) which will hit the market next year, continues testing while showing off more of its exterior and interior. The exterior is shaping up to be sportier than the current model, especially with its stylish new angel eyes, while the interior gets a huge upgrade with its full digital black panel display and extra large iDrive display which appears to be the same as that found in the 7 Series. These prototypes also sport two different sets of wheels.

The G01 X3 will begin sales with a sequence of 20(i,d), 30(i,d), and 40i engine designations. The U.S. will receive the 30i and 40i models, but there's also a nice new addition: the European 20d will be sold in the U.S. as 28d (same as F30 328d, but with the B47 engine likely replaced by the N47) - Source.

Also, as we recently showed you, the G01 X3 will also be joined by the first ever X3 M (F97) model, which should follow shortly after the introduction of the G01 X3.

Original post March 12, 2015

Time flies! The next gen BMW X3 (G01) has already begun testing. The next X3 is due around 2016-2017 and here's the first spotted prototype. It was spied testing with the current X3, and a check into German records confirmed this prototype registered as an X3. The G01 is expected to ride on the upcoming CLAR platform, which will be shared among all future models from the 3 Series and up.

It's still covered in substantial camouflage, so don't be fooled by the heavy covering. The lights are especially covered in a way in order to deceive as to their true shape below.

We've also put together some quick comparison photos against the current X3 for a rough idea of how their overall shapes compare.

Updated: rendering and preview details from Scott26:

Typical X3 Characteristic elements such as the T-Shaped rear lights , rising glasshouse , kicked up hoffmeister kick and sharp features are again carried over to the G01. A new feature continued is the flicked up headlights connecting to the grille but with the headlights utilising the new L shape in which Laser headlights will become available.

A strong but wider facial impression is identified by a wider and angular kidney grille.

For the first time the X3 will be offered an L variant with seating for Seven.

The X3 will become the first new generation of BMW X models to use the latest CLAR architecture utilising the weight load bearing section in Carbon Fiber along with other lightweight materials contributes to a loss of 100KG over the F25.

This will also make it the perfect candidate for the first BMW X3M model.

As of the current model, X3 will continue to be built in Spartanburg South Carolina.

The new BMW X3 arrives in 2016. And will be the first production model to feature the new design language. Although the first BMW SAV to feature the new design will be shown as a concept car ahead of the arrival of the BMW X3 but lays the Template for future models as Vision X.
