Will do. If he turns out to be completely wrong, I'm going to drive there (it's only 12 miles away) and find him in the car park

Was just told that one will be able to upgrade 2011 models to use 6NR with the addition of a flux capacitor costing 499.95 in the US.

Confirmed by John at BMW UK over the phone. I think I could hear "Johnny B. Goode" playing in the background.

Email updates from BMW UK. And perhaps importantly, the promise of "a definitive answer" from "the Technical Manager at BMW Germany"
I wish I could just give the Technical Manager at BMW Germany a call directly. I'm sure I'd resolve seconds what has so far taken BMW UK months. Quote:

It's official!! BMW UK are completely incompetent and the rumblings from the USA re. 6NR were correct all along. Apologies if I gave anyone false hope.
I can't believe a professional company can get things so wrong and will never trust anyone at BMW UK again regarding information. They are a total shambles. Why they can't just say "we don't know yet" until they know for sure, I have no idea. Buffoons. Quote:

It was because of this "smoke and mirrors" from BMW regarding 6nr that I delayed my build week on my 5er (to week 10 March) as I wanted to be sure of 6nr....as you say Buffoons. All your 'digging' in Jan/Feb was very usefull for me and crystallised my thought to delay my build and not rely on the possibilty or not of a BMW retrofit...i am still expecting that there will become a 3rd party retrofit available in due course. |

I also delayed and appreciate the earnest efforts by sfx, et al. I realize some were too late in the process or could not wait due to expiring holiday cash, etc. I also dug deep for info on this issue for many weeks and tried to share my findings here and other boards. The debacle unfolding however forced me to move to a week 10 on my M3 at last minute (at the suggestion of my CA) and this lack of info from BMW on this changeover left much to be desired. I too remain hopeful a retrofit will be made available for those here who missed the changeover.

On an iPhone compatibility note, if I try to download the BMW Connected app from the App Store, it says my iPhone 3G isn't compatible. I think, in the UK at least, you need an iPhone 3GS or above.

I was waiting to see if I would get a reply to my final email on 6NR but I've not had anything. Not surprising really as I just slagged them off! I might put something in writing by way of an official complaint about how BMW UK conducts its business. Here it is anyway

The 6NR features is described in the bulletin above. To use some of the 6NR features (ex. video), you will need an optional cradle for your model iPhone which can be purchased from your dealer later.

So if I had the 6NR package for $300 at time of order of my 28i, I will get the BMW connected app with it as well? Am I reading that correct? |

No, the "My BMW Remote" app is available for free download now at iTunes and can be used on most cars now to do the locks and stuff. The 6NR option works with the also free download "BMW Connected" program at iTunes, but only on cars equipped with that post-April option.

ksoze, the iTunes description makes no mention of those functions in the US store and they don't appear on the app on my iPhone.

You need to download a version from UK store. Search, there are threads on how to do it.
Here is one thread on how: http://f10.5post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=446530

haldol, thanks, I know what it's supposed to ultimately do. My point is that as far as I can tell from the US iTunes store and the app currently on my phone, the only features currently implemented in the US are mileage/consumption stats and internet radio. Might well be doing something wrong, but iTunes doesn't claim any of the other functions and I can't get any hint of them to turn up through the app.
Anyone in the US using the app for the remote function set?

The app you have downloaded is part of the new BMW Apps option (6NR), no remote start, just internet radio, facebook, twitter, and the future! |
