I online creeped a dealership for like 2.5 months while the one i bought sat in the used car lot as a certified pre-owned. For some reason people were not interested in the 6 cylinder. Granted this was a little over a year ago? So i got a great deal on it.

I kind of figured that it'd be nice to have a fun SUV/Dadwagon so to speak.

I'd have bought a Golf R, but man... they are tiny. Kiddo is still little so I gotta have the wagon, extra blankie, extra plushie, change of clothes, some extra towels, etc in the car at all times.

Something like an RDX, Rav 4, CRV, Pilot, Telluride. These vehicles would have similar functional value in terms of ability to ferry around a family of 4, fill it with luggage or some crap from Lowes on a Saturday morning, day long roadtrip to see the parents etc.

I value a car that I can have a little fun with sometimes. I just don't think the X3 30i x/s is enough fun to justify the price premium over these other vehicles that could offer [one or a combination of] more space, better sound, or significantly smaller car payments.

Looking forward to seeing the new Toyota Stout in 2024. However, thinking dealer markup will be outrageous. I hope it gets more than 200 HP and has some cool features. Looks to be a nice around town errand runner with some off roading/winter capability.

Seeing as how your FWD-biased X1 has more in common w/the Japanese SUVs you mentioned, it seems like that should be more your crowd.

What are you doing paying more for a BMW?

The most interesting part of this for me is not the usual cliche "to each their own", but how different our thresholds are for experiencing certain attributes. I very much enjoyed the X3 which I experienced for a full day as a loaner. I'm looking forward to getting my 2024 which is now "at the Port" getting the accessory dashcams installed. For me, X3 SDrive30i combined the fun (rwd handling/steering response with ride quality and eager 4 cylinder) with the practicality I do need for a family car. OTOH, I just returned from a trip where I rented a RAV4 (There was no choice available) and could not wait to return it and be done with its wobbly, plasticky, cheap-feeling, sluggish "appliance" feel. I can't imagine it as comparable or a substitute.

It's not that the X3 was bad at all, I enjoyed the vehicle, but one thing I really enjoyed about the X1 was the throttle tip in. It was basically perfect even in comfort mode. I know the X3 has more power and is faster but in the X3 it felt like you had to dig down into the pedal a little more to really get a response. The power was not as easy to access.

Another thing I really enjoyed about the X1 was the openness of the cabin. I know the x3 is bigger in reality but not having the transmission hump there makes a big difference in how I perceived the space. It just felt very spacious.

So in the end I found myself thinking why would I pay all that money for a nice but not really remarkable, X3 when my $38k X1 is actually more enjoyable to drive. So for me I'd rather go [mostly all, I don't need an X3M] all or nothing and get an m40i if I'm going to invest in an X3.

Those Japanese cars I mentioned are pretty boring. I love Toyota reliability but they'll totally put you to sleep, same for Lexus.

I definitely appreciate good performance. I just didn't find the X3 30i to have enough performance to warrant the price premium. It's in a no-mans land of sorts for me. I'd rather spring for the m40i or just fallback to X1 or something like a GTI or Golf R the former of which I had before the X1 and really enjoyed....just wanted an SUV.

In Edmund’s review of the X1:
The power from the four-cylinder is smooth and strong, but wonky transmission tuning keeps the car in too high of a gear a lot of time, leaving the X1 feeling flat-footed when you need a quick burst of power.

Ironically, many Japanese makes do the same thing (especially Acura). I’m guessing they do it for reliability but not sure why BMW/Mini would tune the X1 this way. Perhaps so it doesn’t cannibalize X3 sales?

They are not available with base seats.
You have to option Leather and make sure its black color. Passenger seat will NOT have the adj bolsters or lumbar.

I went from 2020 to 2023 and did lots of research to make sure to get the bolsters!! Lol

I had the 21 X1, I've heard bad things about the DSG transmission in the new X1.

That "228" hp engine in the X1 really snaps when you put the pedal down though, especially around town. It's just a fun little car to drive despite being FWD or FWD based for the x model.

Something tells me you haven't had the X3 long enough to be considered an informed owner. For instance, in another thread you said:

Trying to figure out if I'm better off ordering HiFi system and upgrading the amp....and possible the speakers OR ordering the HK and upgrading the amp.
Long-time owners/Bimmerpost forum members know that HK tuning from factory is crap and you need to change the equalizer to taste. If you bought your '21 X1 used, it may have already been tuned for you (this goes for the HiFi system too).

How long did you have the X3 for to come to your conclusions?

Does the “Hifi” S676A option have the same number of speakers as the HK option (16 speakers) ?

I believe the RAM is a lower model, hence why it doesn’t process multichannel source properly. The reason the HK has the additional Booster DAC/AMP is the RAM doesn’t support enough channels.

No, it doesn't.

From the "Standard Features" portion of the bmwusa site:

HiFi Sound System with 205-watt digital amplifier and 12 speakers

It's sad that I have way more power in one channel of my stereo XPA2 gen 2 amp (250 watts/channel into 8 ohms, 0.07% THD) than the entire HiFi system!

Sounds like the hifi option isn’t the way to go.

The HK booster is also a DAC as well as an AMP.

At least on the loaner '23 GLC Premium trim (no Burmester) I just had, the system sounded fine but it only had 5 speakers to worry about!

BMW should consider quality over quantity, especially for the HiFi system!

My 2024 in still in transit to the dealer, but the build sheet shows Lumbar Support 488, which I believe is the code for both driver and passenger. There was another member with 487 who only had driver as I recall.

I picked up my 2024 G30 X3 yesterday and it has lumbar support on both driver and passenger seats.

As a side note, it took 3 weeks from order date to pick up date.
