We all truly do. Just curious, why has the direction changed? Honestly speaking i am not in the X3 market, but it can give us some hints what to expect from G20, which i would definitely consider.
Because the board didn't pass it

Headlights and grille look identical to me - just the standard X3 front bumper instead of the M-Sport.

Very subjective

I think the last gen q5 looked much better and think the new X3 looks better than new q5 and glc.

I don't like the new merc designs at all and audi's new SUVs are horrible.

Stelvio is looking good all around but interior (dash) and nav system would probably prevent me from buying one.

The grill is much bigger and the headlights don't look the same to me.

Where is this pic from? Maybe we can see the full page instead of this cropped pic.

I know that it is a signature BMW trait but these massive kidney grilles are getting a bit ridiculous. They are now officially "disproportionate" looking. They should be about 33% smaller. It would make the whole front end look much better.

Don't hey have professional design people making these things? Do they not know about symmetry and proportion? I guess the marketing folks keep winning out over the design team.

Those kidney grilles though... Too big for my taste.

Whenever I see it, I can remember the green pigs on Angry Birds...

Disappointing for me. I guess different strokes for different folks.

So marketing hype? Just like a Mazda isn't a car, but a Zoom Zoom?

Have you driven a Macan, an SQ5 or any of the SUV competitors to the X3? They're all SUV's. There's literally only a thing called an SAV in BMW's marketing fluff.

And just for giggle's sake, is an X3 with a low output diesel an SUV, but an M X40i somehow an SAV? Is a Macan Turbo a SportierAV? Is there a sliding scale that we can use? Maybe a bell curve where increased weight takes away a little, so an X5M is more of an SaV, or an saV, maybe with a bold V? saV?

I found my N20 X3 fine reliability wise, unremarkable to drive.

The lone exception was when it got exceptionally cold. At first I thought it was battery drain due to all the electronics, but I believe it was another type of sensor related. Do a search, there are a couple long threads on this.

This seems to have been corrected with my wife's newer (2015) N20 X4 which (knock wood) hasn't had that issue crop up. That said, I personally would not buy the first year of a new production run. Too many gremlins historically. I've let the early adaptors do the shake-down lol!

That is how bad this X3 looks, it looks worse than the German competition that aren't exactly winning design awards. That front end is a design mess.

Stelvio is quite good looking...F-Type as well.

Range Range Velar is probably the most attractive. Although it is a little larger of a vehicle.

Fair enough. From what I have read many people don't think the X3 as reliable. It's even mentioned in a few online articles. Makes me wonder why it sells so well.

The answer may lie in:
  • Sales & Promotions, LEase rates and residuals over its run
  • SUV's are very, very popular vs sedans now. Probably whats driving traffic to dealerships as much or even more than an entry level 320.

F'15 is even more pedestrian from the exterior imo. Sexy inside, mom soccer mobile on the out.

RR Velar sets the bar for me on exterior aesthetics. But it will lease like s hit and the reliability is an issue until RR can prove otherwise. Same with Jag.

The Range Rover and. Volvo teams are hitting exterior designs out of the park, how hard is it for BMW to do so, after Bangle just too conservative and pedestrian.

the new X3 are reciving alot of critisism, even before official release. Let's what in store for us tomorrow. As of now, the RR Velar is priced around the Porsche, and above the X3. The jag have dated tech and few engine options. The new XC60 is decent, it has conservative looks, slow drivetrain (transmission) and few engine options, only 4 cylinders. The Q5 is a direct competitior though, and the Audi have it's customer base obviously. I think the X3 will do excellent, but it need at least one hybrid option and one EV option.
