If I get a M sport wheel with the same options as my standard wheel can I not swap the buttons from my standard wheel over to the M sport one? The buttons appear to be the same size and fitment. I'm asking because the wheel I'm considering doesnt come with buttons or an airbag but has everything else.

They appear the same, but if you look closely the trim as it goes to the airbag is a different size.

And honestly the last week with the stock wheel was so horrible. Made me hate the x3. Lol
I totally want the M40i wheel......grrrr.

Seriously thinking about buying the upgraded steering wheel for my 18' m40i.
Would this be considered a good deal including airbag. From Latvia, I assume this was stolen or what not.

Including airbag that seems like a great deal ($1100 US?). I wouldn't assume these are stolen, several of us have bought from sellers who are happy to share the VINs. It's when the codes are scratched off the parts and they can't explain where they got them that things become sketchy.

Probably. Ask to verify with UltraDNA that they are not stolen. Many parts are stolen around here, and most medium and top priced BMWs are getting UltraDNA marked nowadays.

If they refuse; stolen.

Thanks! Does it have to be a specific stage airbag or since it's a combo deal it's still a plug and play? I read the US G01's have a 3 stage airbag.

You can code for the 2 stage airbag, or buy a bare wheel and get the 3 stage like some of us have.

Hey guys - I'm looking at a MY2019 X4 M40i. Would MUCH rather have the "thicker" M wheel (heated) that comes in the MY2019 X3 M40i. Any idea where I could buy the MY2019 X3 M40i version?

I'd like to do a steering wheel swap where I only buy what I need (so I keep my original airbag). Then I'd try and sell my X4 M40i version. Any estimate for how much I could get for it? I'm just trying to plan out how expensive this endeavor will be.

If it matters the X4 M40i will be full loaded with all features (driving assist, etc).

The airbag is different ; can't use that one.

Buy on eBay ... I would say 2k ish for the swap and if you are super lucky and have connections maybe 1,400 on the low end.

You will get 0 for your standard wheel. There's just no market for it in my opinion .

Not sure I follow. Just to be clear, the 2019 X4 comes with an "M" wheel (with steering wheel heater). It just doesn't have the "thicker" "M" wheel that comes with the 2019 X3's. So it's not the standard wheel. This would be an upgrade for someone with a standard wheel if they wanted the "M" wheel.

You sure airbags are different (on 2019 X4 M wheel vs 2019 X3 M wheel)?

The 2019 X4 comes with a standard sports wheel, just as the 2018 X3 did. The 2019 X3 got the desirable M Sport wheel. The airbags are different between the standard sports wheel and the M Sport wheel.

Thanks, I see what you're saying now. The 2019 X4 isn't even an "M" wheel, it's just the standard sports wheel.

You think MY2020 will have the "M" wheel on the X4?

Hey guys, seeking a little help -- do you know if a 1 stage airbag can be coded to work with the car? Is it preferable to have a 2 or 3 stage?

Thanks!

I believe it can be, sor mentions the 1 stage being the OEM in Europe, so I believe it's just a coding change.

Thanks for that insight! When you say "coding" -- is this something that is performed at the dealer or can it be accessed by a third-party coder?

He's got it all there at the bottom of the dyi. You can get someone to code it for you or download the software yourself.

They can all be coded to work, but each stage provides more customization to the way the inflation is handled during an impact, so supposed to be safer.
