I think though the winter OEM 764M rear wheels are 9,5x20 ET39. 9x20 ET28 is only poking out 4,7mm than this wheel and 1,7mm less than the 21" OEM 892M wheels. So I really cannot see any problem with it. The advantages of a square setup for winter are obvious to balance out wear 😉 |

255/45R20 square is the proper winter setup, don't go wider if you live anywhere that gets consistent snow/ice.
I find the 255 too wide still, and I find they slide too much compared to the 225s I had on my 340i I just got rid of, but those were also much better tires (Hakkapeliitta R5) compared to the Scorpions. When I have to replace them I'll probably go with 245/45R20 Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV. |

I know the old school of thought was the skinnier the better in the snow and ice but I've had some pretty wide rear tires on my Cayenne Turbo, CLS550 and now my X4mComp and have run square set ups as well. I have had zero problems and they feel like they brake better. The biggest issue I've had w the X4M is it absolutely burns through the rears with the rear traction bias. Here in Minnesota, the roads are cleared of the snow quickly and regularly, the soft winters just get eaten up by the bare pavement in between storms. On a side note I went with Michelin Cross Climate 2's All Weather and have seen zero drop off in traction in deep snow on ski trips. Best! Here a nice write up on width: https://www.motor1.com/news/696279/w...%20more%20grip. |

Help Needed (Winter Tire Set Up X3M Comp)
I am looking for a very inexpensive set of Rims and Tires for my 2024 X3M Comp. I would only need them roughly 6 weeks out of the year for driving in the snow. I've seen a lot people dropping from a 21" rim to a 20" rim to account for the larger side wall of snow tires. I would like to make them as close to the stock size as possible as I'm paranoid about messing with the AWD drivetrain and causing future problems. Please let me know what has worked for y'all, thanks!

I mention it as occ new Members aren't familiar with the Stickies section at the top of the thread list, and if viewing on smaller mobile devices you have to first push on the "Show Sticky Threads" radio button for the threads to appear. |
