Extending my speculation about why this dealer was willing to sell me the car for $4500 less than anyone else (which is they needed it this month), I would guess they booked it this month. They charged my credit card within seconds of receiving a signed contract, so desperation may be prevailing. :-)

Proof that if you spend the time to really study the ordering guide, find a dealer willing to be competitive, shop via email and send them a valid, detailed build and insist on seeing the vehicle inquiry report from the BMW order entry system before you put down a deposit, you can really speed up the process and get exactly what you want. _Very_ excited.

Last few BMWs I ordered, I sent my specs to the manager at two local dealers. One of them is always more responsive with better deals, while the other tries to sell me a car on the lot (and in this case he said 2019 allocations didn't come out until November despite the fact that I knew otherwise, so he was really pushing a 2018 they had).
The good place got back to me right away, offered a good deal plus any incentives in effect at time of delivery, and said they'd let me know when they got allocations. Got the call in early July when 2019 allocations hit, did the deal, got the inquiry report with specs and production number, and then gave them $1000 on my credit card. Couldn't have been easier. All done by phone and e-mail. Meanwhile, this other place kept trying to sell me a 2018 despite the fact the color/options weren't what I wanted and I had told them I was waiting for 2019 to get the M-sport steering wheel. The clincher was that they did some googling about the steering wheel, found something that was totally irrelevant but supported their notion I should buy a 2018 instead. For this very special google search result they found, they printed it out on paper, and then scanned it to a PDF, and then e-mailed it to me. All that to communicate a google search result!! I figure if they are that stupid they definitely don't need my business. Talk about out of touch. |

The M40i is my second X3 this year. The dealer where I bought the first one was one of the most expensive for my new one. They got pissy, as if they "deserved" the second order. Plus, they don't really "get" email.

Beating my 13.8%... plus you're supposedly in production already. Pretty amazing for a 2019. The dealer must be taking quite the bath, literally losing money on the deal.

I must say, I am amazed it came together like this -- and I remain suspicious of the dealer's motivations and actions. Primary among them is that no other Mass. dealer would commit to the BMW FS rebate on the purchase contract. Others were willing to say that if there's a rebate available when I take delivery, it would apply. And, the dealer tried to write-in at the last moment that the deposit was for a "non-refundable special order". I removed that term and they took the deposit anyway. I bought a car from these people in 2006 as a European Delivery. I sent them the article on my second ED in 2012. I sent them a table with precisely the build I wanted, using the ordering guide. So I guess they figured I will close on the deal. Or they think they can wriggle out of it if the BMW FS rebate doesn't materialize. Maybe they really, really need the sale for internal or franchise reasons I don't know. Possibly it could be that they wanted to sell a car on a Sunday. Whatever it is (and who cares?), the car is being built, they were $4000 less than their other store in eastern Mass (a clue for those who are PM'ing me for the dealer name) and I have a signed, valid purchase contract. This is one state where consumer protections are strong. I think the deal will go down, but as they say it ain't done until it's done. It's gonna be a long wait until Labor Day-time, which is when I expect the M40i.

This morning is when it switched over to status 150: entered production. If it really has that means I could get it by week 33/34. That would be amazing as I could take the car on a road trip planned for Labor Day weekend. So freaking excited! My wife and friends will be finally happy to see I got the car so I can stop talking about getting the car.

The production week they give is when the vehicle has completed production, so it makes sense it jumped into production 5-6 days before week 31. That gives us a rough idea that it will take 5-7 days (or so) to complete production if it stays on schedule for week 31 completion.
I don't know what the timeline is for delivery across country, but that will probably be the next major time delay you face. I am pretty sure west coast deliveries go by train. I am also week 31, so I'll be expecting my status to change to 150 in the next few days. And if it does complete next week I'd expect it here in Virginia by mid-August since we're just a 1-day truck ride away. |

Are you guys calling the genius phone number to see that it went into production, or does your garage say that?
Reason I ask, is my garage doesn't show a VIN and it only says scheduled for production, but I just called the genius line and they said it went into production as of 7/12 and it's scheduled to be complete by week 31 (next week), but they can't tell me the VIN yet.

My dealer told me nothing would begin till August. I guess due to the ZDA/ZDB fiasco they're pushing everything up. I really hope everything goes smoothly. I want it now! |

On my 30i, I did this and since there's no prepayment penalty, I simply paid it off. It takes BMW FS about two weeks to book the loan, so you can't pay it off the next day. I think their minimum loan is $15K or at least that's what the dealer insisted on originating the loan for. I'd have "borrowed" less -- maybe $2K or $3K -- if I could have. Still, it's worth it. The loan cost me $45 in interest and $75 to remove the lien on the title. Net: $1880.
