Is it related to hardware capabilities or software update? In other words: can someone with no RSU (SP15 / lite) have the software updated by dealer and get the My Trips thing? Or everyone will get and they are phasing the roll out as several people here got it in different times.

We shall see. BMW Technical Support is often wrong.

BMW created such a mess with iDrive 7 lite that their own teams rarely seem to understand what it can and can't do.

I now see My Trips in my car's data settings when I didn't see this previously and I'm on SP15. So it is possible we'll see this arrive at some point for us in iDrive 7 "Lite" cars.

I can't see how the feature would depend on anything in SP18 since it is an app that runs on the Head Unit. It is possible we might need dealer installed software updates too

Had a reply from "Technical"

"I've now had a response from the Technical Support Team and they've confirmed that the My Trips feature is not compatible with your BMW X3.

My Trips is only compatible with vehicle's which are fitted with Service Pack 18 or Service Pack 21 - Your BMW is fitted with Service Pack 15 which is why your vehcile is not compatible with My Trips"

I had the same reply early last year re.Android Auto and Alexa missing, and a software upgrade proved them wrong!
Booked in early January, let's see if software 03.22 or 07.22 enables My Trips for SP 15.

Thanks for letting us know. So your car is a 2020 built and doesn't have Android Auto or Alexa and therefore it has iDrive 7 with SP15.

My 2021 car doesn't have the full RSU thing but it has some capabilities as I was able to install Android Auto and Alexa a couple of months after I took delivery doing the "option" update on app screen. So I guess I got the SP18 id7, which according to "Technical" allow for My Trips.

And I still have not got this yet.

SP18 is only available in the LCI X3 i.e MY 22 on. Is your car MY22 LCI made in 21 ? It doesn’t sound like it is if no RSU.

SP18 is a different architecture and uses different hardware. Pre LCI the G01 offers what is referred to as “iDrive 7 lite”, because it doesn’t support all the features of iDrive 7 on models with SP18.

My car is MY21 pre-LCI and it was built on early 2021. But it updates over the air whenever it feels like. For instance it got Alexa and Android Auto overnight out of the blue someday.

Anyway, sometimes I think BMW does this to make your 1-year old car feel obsolte and buy a new one...

Yes built January 2020, but with the dealer installed software update to 03.21 Android Auto, Alexa Carplay etc. was enabled. This was contrary to the "experts" at Connected Drive saying that my SP15 model wasn't compatible.

Let's see if they are wrong again when I have update 07.22. Booked in January.

Hi guys, I've been in contact with local BMW customer services and they asked me to provide the VIN number of a vehicle that got the My Trips thing working — told them that a friend got this.

It doesn't need to be the whole thing. Only the last 7 digits. Can someone please help me out?

Good news! Today I got the My Trips thing working on my BMW app. Remembering I am on a pre-LCI early 21 built with iDrive 22.03.

Local BMW genius helped me. He deleted my car from Connectedrive server and added again. I received confirmation emails out of the blue when he was doing that.

Next I logged in… boom! The My Trips data privacy check on car was there. And my trips showed and started working on app.

I lost the ability to contact my X3 with the MyBMW app on 7-Nov but it was restored last night. I did nothing during those 7 days that would have fixed that. I think that there was a sick BMW server somewhere that finally got rebooted and got the connection going again. Anyone else get communications restored in the last 24 hrs or so?

Somewhere in the head unit options, there are privacy settings. To see the my trips stuff, make sure your privacy settings are set to share all (top option). You may need to uninstall and reinstall the mybmw app after.

Hope this helps someone.

FYI - my wife had her privacy settings set to something other than thepsr liberal option and for a while I could see my trips but not hers. So every driver must have this enabled.

The app now has the option and mentions that it needs enabling in the car, but despite updating apps and services and resetting iDrive I still can't see the data privacy option to enable it in the car.

Mine is exactly the same. Pre Lci built June 21 with 07/21 software.

My Trips all working after the My BMW app update last night to 2.11.0.
I deleted and re-installed the app and all good.
All journeys since the beginning of November are there !
This is on a Jan 2020 build and iDrive7 lite 03.21 software.
So much for the rubbish told by ConnectedDrive that it wasn't possible.....

Do you have the privacy option in the car? That is what is holding me up right now.

Yes had My Trips box ticked for weeks.

Try reseting the drive in the car and updating all privacy options, including apps.

The iDrive 7 "Lite" cars are a mystery to BMW. It is as if they have no clue they even exist when they created the mess in the first place.

They only seem to understand "Full" iDrive 7 so they end up getting into some bizarre loops and knots if you ask them about iDrive 7 "Lite" issues. The coders also end up in the same trap which is probably why we were missing the feature until an app update. It probably had a flag that toggled the feature off for "Lite" cars assuming that all "Lite" cars are on iDrive 6...
