As long as you stay out of expert mode, nothing else to worry about. BimmerCode makes it super easy to code.

I only did the standard coding, no expert stuff. No time and some fear of screwing up...

Just remember that if you do a horrendous error, you can restore it to default. It's really not difficult Just be sure not to accidentally disconnect it while coding.

Just did my first coding session. Was a pain to connect OBDlink and time iDrive to be in diagnostic mode at same time perfectly. Took me awhile to get it right. Thought I was gonna blow out a light with all the pushing of the start/stop button. Other than that, pretty easy to code in non expert mode. The only thing I didn't like was when I coded the instrument cluster to see what alpina display look like, it resetted my onboard info and some of my vehicle settings. I was tracking my mpg since owning car - was at 20.2mpg after 7k mile. So, didn't really want to reset my onboard info. Plus didn't care for alpina display or any of the code options under instrument cluster...
Oh well, I was able to code off warnings, start in adaptive mode, //m iDrive start animation, dvd video in motion were a few that I did. Not sure if I'll watch a dvd though haha. What's headlight cleaning BTW? I thought we don't have headlight washers? Why would we g01 get that as a code in non expert mode? BimmerCode should just add full screen Apple CarPlay to the non expert mode instead |

As the new X3M is going to be released soon, do you know if it will be possible with a futur Bimmercode update to have the X3M dash as it possible to have the Alpina one ?

Yea the //m animation is nice - better than the stock connected drive one.
Had my first issue after coding where mid drive the iDrive just crashed and I had to power it back up. First time something like that happen so hope it's just a one time thing... Oh is there a way to change the vibration sensitivity on steering wheel for lane departure warning in BimmerCode? Be nice if I can change it by percentage. I have mine on strong and it still feels weak. Recently brought it in for a service and it seemed like it improved after I mentioned about it. Not sure if service coded it to be stronger and I just reset it with the coding I did on BimmerCode or maybe it is just the placebo effect from visiting service. |

I searched to find an APP that connects with the UniCarScan adapter to read codes rather than program the ECU and came up empty.
Do you know of an APP that uses UniCarScan to give real time info (like error codes, or tach, or throttle, etc? Thanks! Paul |

So if you had ASS off when shutting down car, it should be off when you start it back up. Likewise if you had ASS on last, car will start up with ASS on. ASS on ASS off |

BimmerCode w/G02 X4 M40i and OBDLink MX+
Looking to code off a number of things. I'm highly technical and have hacked many non-car stuff over the years but I'm reviewing this thread and others I have concerns. Which leads me to the following:
1. How was common do the horror stories (crashes, failed updates requiring BMW reactivation, lost functionality, etc.) occur? I don't want a couple rare cases to scare me off but I also don't want to play Russian roulette. Not looking to use expert mode (yet). 2. Has anyone used BimmerCode w/G02 X4 M40i and OBDLink MX+? X4's are relatively uncommon to X3's, G02 even moreso. Therefore not sure if Bimmercode is as well tested. 3. How often do dealers give you crap if they realize you've coded? Is it relatively rare or common? I could uncode before bringing it in, but if each coding brings risk of failed updates I'd rather avoid uncoding/recoding. |

Also no difference between G01 & G02, they have identical chassis’s, equipment and control units! Dealers are fine, mine even told me that my coding was preventing them from updating my car (I wrote modified FA to the car, not something you can do with bimmercode) and let me come with my laptop to change it. |
