Sorry but this car is ugly.
X6 looks good but not this one. the headlights/taillights needs to be sleeker to achieve that sporty look that this car is made for. they look like Mac truck lights currently.

I actually am really looking forward to this. I've always been partial to the X6 aside from the size. And I recently test drove the X1, which I liked but I still couldn't get past the looks (totally different look than X4 and X6, more like a 3 series station wagon/Infinity EX35). But the X4 seems to fill that void like the 3 bears situation. X6 = too big, X1 = too small, X4 jusssssst right.
This is highly subjective and polarizing, but between this and the M235i, I'm really excited for late 2013 and early 2014. That would line up for when I have 1 year left on my CPO for my 20093 335i. I've been looking at the 135is but I still need X-Drive for ski trips into the VT mountains. I know these are two different cars, but I'm trying to decide on small and nimble vs utility and style. Exciting! |

Looks way tooth like the X6. There's not enough differentiation between the two IMO.

Design Mistake
The huge design mistake they made was to take current X3 and smash the rear. What they should have done, was to take X6 and downsize it a bit in all dimensions.
p.s. since it is a concept, I hope the look and style of the actual car will improve. Otherwise, its a no buy for me - too ugly. |

I still don't like the rear. I really don't like the concept of an SAC. It is just weird IMO. The front half of the car is sexy though. I really hope they can take the design and apply it to the next gen X3. Too bad that it will never happen

I see another x6 flop happening again!!!
Why bother with this type of vehicle if you want a 4x4 buy an x5 and if you want a big cruiser then buy a 5-6 or even 7 series!!! Simples! |

Unfortunately, that 10% is what makes a car go from looking good to looking awesome and to stand out from its competitors. When people buy a premium brand like BMW, they expect to have that extra 10% that most other companies are lacking. So the X4 production version is going to end just like the 4 series, a nice looking car but nothing to get over exited about and a bit disappointed because after looking at the concept you know what it could have been. What I really can't understand is why those nice details of the concept can't make it into production and I'm coming from a design/manufacturing background so I know the compromises that have to be made on a production model/product, but in this case, that extra 10% is nothing out of the ordinary in terms of manufacturing within the capabilities of a company like BMW. I wish BMW had taken an "Apple" approach to product design, they just minimize to the limits any compromise needed on production and develop their designs go into production in a 99% form.

You're assuming that the X6 has been a flop.
AFAIK, it has exceeded sales targets, and BMW might be happy to recreate its level of success. Especially since the incremental R&D cost beyond what they've already done for the X3 and F30 cars is minimal. It's not an all-new, ground-up car. Neither was the X6, for that matter. I would never buy an X3. They're too cute by half. But I might buy an X4. See, there you go. Incremental sales.

I tend to agree, or maybe BMW should not have used all the sexy parts on a near-production prototype. I like the F32, but I think I would have liked it more had I not seen the concept version first.

The lights really make the car stand out. Such a shame that they won't go into production. |

Failing that I'm sure someone will have spotted how good the concept X4 and 4 headlights are and how much they could make selling a replacement with hex led striped angel eyes. |

I think is a big step above the X3. As a SAV as they say its nice.
Lets be honest here, its a coupe-like SUV for city driving. It fits a niche that people will pay for. What else is there, Evocque...thats about it. Anything from Honda or Acura is disgusting. It'll sell better than the the F31 touring since the SUV is an accepted vehicle in NA. And made in Spartanburg...an American made car. That is actually a plus. |

And to some of the other posts in this thread sneering at the X Line; let's' not forget the "profit" from these short wheel-base, weight-laden, height laden beasts fuel the R&D for things like M3, M4...... Just Sayin...
