It would make sense if they were able to boost it to 480 just to keep up with competition. Alfa Stelvio 500hp Jaguar svr 550hp Merc AMG 469+hp All with healthy torque as well Although I expect the X3 to weigh a little less too based on base weights of all those cars (merc is a hog near 4500 lbs) X3M rated at 480 by BMW could be closer to 520-525 in dyno testing. |

Somehow I bet the weight savings programme of the X3M is more substantial than that of the M2 because there is more available weight to lose. |

In that email they also wrote the engine has 2993ccm, the current M4/M3 has 2979ccm, so i think that tis is a hint that the engine is new and not a blown up S55. I can post again if i got some updates.. PS: 600NM of torque.. |

I'm waiting for and hope/expect the X3M Comp. to have the wider wheel arches, more aggressive look, and the 520-550 HP that will keep it the king of the small SUV's at least for a year or two...
In the meantime, the X3 M40i, is a very competent, fast as hell, lil' ute.

Definitely doesn't look much different from a M40i at all. Obviously, the performance aspect will be there but I expected a bit more differences in the looks department between the two. I'll reserve my actual opinion until we see it. I suspect the CP version will be quite the animal if it's anything like the F80 or new M5 performance dynamics.

I'm really hoping they announce availability...word is March 2019, but that isn't "official". Seems like we would get some sort of reveal soon if production starts in the Spring.

Guess it makes it even with stelvio but way behind Mercedes and Jaguar (516 and 505 torque) Probably the difference in 6 vs 8 cyl |

This is for sure the difference between 6 and 8 Cylinders, but i guess the S58 Engine will rev higher than e.g. the Mercedes V8.
And the 0-100kph sprints will show if it can match a GLC 63. I belive it will! |

The Merc and Jag are much heavier! Even with less HP/torque the X3M should be slightly quicker. (certainly the X3M Comp.)

325 rears or go home
For those saying the X3M (renderings or not) doesn't look all that different from an M40i, I agree with the earlier posts that visually an X5M compared to an X5 Msport isn't that much different. Unless you're an enthusiast, it is hard to tell the difference. The same will hold true for the X3M40i and X3M.

Jaguar is 4395 lbs. already announced. Stelvio is 4340 Merc is heavy at almost 4500 M40i is 4300 and I doubt the M will be lighter, in fact I am guessing with extra turbo around 50 lbs more. |

Is it just me, or is the X-line completely and utterly over-saturated? X1, X2, X3, X4, X5, X6, X7.... Not to mention the "GT" versions of the normal series. Come on BMW!! Yet you still won't give us ///M Touring models in the US but instead all this over-whelming crud!
I think that they should have at minimum three X models, at most four. Compact, Mid-Size, and Large. Not compact, different shape compact, mid-size, different shape mid-size with less room, large, large with less room, ultra-large. Come on, give me a break!

Expecting the X3M (certainly the Comp.) to shed a few lbs. (4250?), so this chart should be close to accurate... More CF on the M will help.
I'd be VERY happy with a 3.7-3.8 sec. 0-60, 490hp X3M, no?? Jag is claiming a 4.1 sec. 0-60 in the new SVR, for reference. Also keep in mind BMW underestimates its HP. 490, might be closer to 535-550.

Jaguar claims 4.1, but with that engine and weight, I can't see it being that slow. For reference the Stelvio weighs 55 lbs less but has 45 less HP and 59 less torque, it does 0-60 in 3.3 (5-60 4.3) as tested by C&D. Mercedes GLC63 comp has the same 0-60 times with 503 HP and 516 torque while weighing 122 lbs more than the Jaguar. I am almost wondering if the 4.1 is more of a 5-60 rolling start worst case scenario time listed by them. Jaguar has also been known to update their advertised 0-60 times as soon as any magazine tests it quicker (they did this with the F Types for example). if they can keep the X3M/X4M around 4300 lbs and give it 475-480 HP base (hopefully meaning more like 500+ real life numbers) that would be amazing. Personally I think its going to be between this and the Jaguar SVR for me, I just can't get over the cheap interior of the Stelvio (for a $80K+ vehicle), don't care for styling on Mercedes, and Macan is just too damn expensive in the trim needed to compete (close to $100K). The V8 of the Jaguar gives it a big edge, great sounding engine, and they are known to deep discount even on high performance models. BMW infotainment is hard to beat though and that does matter. I also really wish the X3M had the new 3 series dash setup, much more modern. |
