I noticed the Admiral App has a "My Trips" feature, which essentially captures all journeys you take with your phone. It doesn't matter if you're a car passenger, driver, or on public transport, it uses the data about how and where you travel to create a "risk profile". Wonder how that will get used......

It's not mandatory, hence the app isn't going anywhere near my phone LOL.

Any excuse to extort money from people, some of these companies are really awful.

Maybe prices are stabilising. 🤞
45% increase! For me that would mean an increase of £164 on my policy. That would put my cost at £529 which is more than I paid when I was 34 years old buying a brand new 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX with Prodrive suspension and the Prodrive 'PPP' pack.

Yes that's 20 years ago, and £529 is not as bad as some you guys with M40i / M40d’s but I never thought I'd be paying those sort of prices again in my lifetime, unless I bought a proper expensive car from Porsche or Bentley (I wish).

21 days until my renewal is sent to me. Can't wait.

I went through a phase of Porsche 911, and back then it cost me about the same as a well specced M40 today. The insurance wasn’t that bad, and I wasn’t a perfect driver either.

Thing is the M40 is actually faster 0-60, but limited to 155mph, whereas the 911 wasn’t.

Very true. My X3 (even the clunky 30d) feels just a quick (in a straight line) as my old Subaru but it doesn't go round corners anywhere near as well though It was a prefect family car for the times, although my Mrs said it gave her whip lash half the time.

I've been driving since 1987 and watched my premiums go up as I bought more powerful cars (nothing super quick, just bigger engines) and in the Subaru's case modding it to just shy of 300bhp with suspension that was like being on rails, but at that point age/versus experience caused the premiums to drop, and they've been dropping ever since... until now.

Just a different time I guess, and I need to get used to higher insurance costs. I just hope that by the time I come to retire (only 11 years to go) it's sorted itself out, as paying stupid insurance money for a decent car will 100% affect what I go for. Now, I have the Macan in sight as my retirement toy but that could change massively. I hope not.

It is a fairly recent thing. When I bought my M40i last April, I changed my insurance over from my 330i and the extra premium worked out as an annual premium of £330. When I came to renew last November, the cheapest I could find was £590. It almost doubled in 7 months.

Yes, victimize drivers. Don’t buy cars that thieves want! Cause that makes them steal from you! It’s definitely not sensible to go after the thieves!
What’s next? We tell women to not dress provocatively because it invites unsolicited approaches? Donkey backwards!

I did an insurance quote last night for a brand new BMW M240i and the premium came in at roughly the same as MY22 M40d....WTF is going on!

What is the insurance group of both ?

I don’t know how accurate this is, but the m40d and X3M Comp appears to 1 group difference lol.

You’d think they’d ask if I have a dash cam fitted, but they don’t.

Some comparison sites/insurers ask, but I’m not sure if it makes any difference to the quote.

I did several quotes with start dates spread of over a 4 day period, with all being more than three weeks away. The quotes varied from £720 to £1294 from the same insurer on different comparison sites, and its own website.

The other thing to watch for is the APR if you pay monthly, again different for the same insurer on different sites.

It’s hard to fathom what’s going on, but time the market is investigated, or people with join the hundreds of thousands who don’t both insuring, which is probably part of the issue.

The jokers at Hastings have messaged me that it’s the time of year to try and rip me off again. Last year I paid £450, renewal is £1200 , nothings changed other than their excuses and waffle for the increase…….Did I want to go ahead with the renewal?…….er no thank you. A very quick confused.com comparison check shows Tesco at £620 and Aviva at £622 for the same cover.

I might ring a few specialist brokers see what they’ll do. I’ve had a Ghost2 immobiliser fitted this year see if that makes a difference.

Edit: Renewed with Admiral Gold policy for £576 via compare the market. I phoned Adrian Flux on the off chance via the BMW car club quote number and the best they would do was £1000.

Jokers some of these insurance companies. The whole industry needs investigating properly as they are ripping consumers off.

Interestingly an acquaintance recently spoke with an individual who works in the insurance industry who said that the main reason policies have gone up is due the rising costs for repairing or paying out on EV cars as the claims for EV’s are so expensive and as a result everyone else is subsidising these costs.

£576 is a bargain Shaun, a friend from works mother (she’s 60) has just bought a 15 plate VW Tiguan for £8000, tried to insure it, lowest was over £1000, had to get a broker, who then finally got it down to £750…..buts that’s ridiculous for a 15 plate, £8000 Tiguan!
Bloody rip off merchants, the lot of them.

Compared to earlier this year, the prices appear better now for me on a like for like quote. Interestingly, I’m also with Admiral.

It’s not necessarily the value of the car, but some other risk factor that can bump up the cost.

As above, there are MANY factors they use to scr3w you. Interestingly, in th epast, I found that a new car of way more value than a current (say) 1-2 years old car can attract a lower premium.

Go figure.

Yeah I understand how your personal risk factor can increase your premium but it’s still a ball ache at best and a bloody nightmare at worst.
