Reality is haven't driven the '21 in sport plus all that much ... getting older and the pops/gurgles got old. Will have to test it out a bit more but it's def quieter than the '18.

The steps a few posts ago worked for me. Didn't realize I had to dig down into the menu to turn it off.

Here i just did this. Cold start with revs up to 2k, 3k, and 4-4.5k. Didnt wanna push harder on a cold unbroken-in engine. Can prob do some warm start with more revs later.

Hey - Thanks for doing that, cold start still sounds aggressive and I heard a nice pop as well. My car was built on Aug 3rd, but I booked a PCD for mid September, so I'm anxiously waiting until then to hear one for myself. I was hoping by now there would be some press cars floating around for YouTubers, but apparently not.

2021 x30i owner here that had some owners remorse that I didn't get the pops and burbles, but it seems like after 2018 they really neutered the sound. Really starting to wonder what the benefits of the m40i is vs the x30i are. I am pretty happy with what the x30i can do off the line.

No problem. Didnt get to it today but I can take more vids over the weekend.

The caveat to that video is that it's in my garage so other than the open garage door, theres lots of reflective surfaces for the exhaust sound to bounce off and sound meaner. However, the pops and burbles are just there regardless of surroundings.

I'll say that initially I didn't hear any pops or burbles at all, but driving with the windows down I do notice them. A bit. Not a lot. A bit. You also get to learn how to modulate the gas pedal to coax extra sounds out based on how you engage the throttle.

Overall, its nowhere nearly as loud as my 135i with catbacks, or even my Honda fit with an axleback (a high quality and actually kinda mellow Tanabe dual exhaust not one of the loud "fart cans"). Another factor may be that the X4 just plain has better insulation and sound deadening materials in the cabin, so the overall loudness isn't so obvious.

However the sound that does come out, regardless of volume, is deep and throaty, and you can definitely find ways to coax more sounds out of the exhaust. Also, when I'm in sport plus or sport individual, people in the neighborhood definitely hear me coming. I havent revved past 4500 either, due to break in. Even in the vid I didnt go above 4500. But as I go over 3500 I do hear the exhaust come alive much more, so I think I'm handicapping myself in terms of exhaust sound by not revvingit out.

One thing of note for people who hate the artifical engine sounds in the cabin is that there is a "reduced" mode that decreases that across ALL configurations. Theres also a mode that adjusts the output based on which mode you're on and a "balanced" mode which I feel basically pumps in the engine sounds across all settings.

Anyway, overall- at first I was a bit disappointed with the exhaust sound. But from the beginning it has always been a deep growling throaty note, which I love. Its not as loud as any aftermarket exhaust, but still is turns heads around town even if I don't notice it as much in the well insulated cabin. And I've realized that by purposely taking it easy during break in I've been handicapping the exhaust note. But definitely not as crazy as the original pop-happy 2018 though. Still, I've got 2 other cars with super loud exhausts. Having one with only a moderately loud exhaust isn't a huge deal and though it's not near the OG 2018 sound, it's not quite as neutered as I originally thought.

You need to be in Sport Plus with Trans in manual mode then downshift from 3rd to 2nd at 6k rpm to get the loud bang and burbles.

In normal driving with Sport Plus mode nothing happens…..

I took delivery yesterday and am waiting to hit 1,200 miles to really rev it up but I find it a bit muted even in sport plus mode. I feel like there is a lot of sound fed into the cabin, so it may sound exciting but from the outside I think it's underwhelming. It does pop and gurgle tho when you shift down and it hits 3200-3800 rpm.

Should have the miles in by Monday though, because I took delivery at the performance center in SC, then drove to PA, now I'm heading back to NY, and then I gotta go to MA.

Also seeing if I can do MHD tune after unlocking it because I know that'll give you more aggressive pops and gurgles.

Picking up x3 at Performance center this coming Thursday August 26th . Never did anything like this before so am anxious to get it and experience the performance center. I guess I will break it in on trip back home about 800 miles worth. Anyone been there This year with some input ?
