Easy question. Buy one now...then seven to eight years down the road, buy the CFRP M3/M4. I would never be able to wait seven years for anything.

Interesting for sure. Lately I have been thinking about selling my Z4M and getting a used Mazdaspeed Miata ( I had one and loved it) plus a Harley VROD, damn sons of anarchy... hahahaha I kid I kid, well maybe not.
The Z3 would be interesting to see, if the price point is ok. I really wanted the F Type, but the damn thing is priced out of my range for now. Need to pay the damn new Jeep off first.

Anyone else wonder how the illustration on the front page of bimmerpost works with that seat in a CF tub? Looks like no room for feet/pedals??

i don't know what the hell is wrong with BMW, to co-operate with a company like toyota. it even looses the prestige of a BMW. and why can't they make god damn car of their own,, this is the stupidest idea ever. i'm really disappointed at BMW.

As long as BMW retains its own design, engines and dynamics and as long as the similarities between the two from behind the wheel aren't too obvious, I'm fine! A 100% pure car would nowadays cost millions with all the tech R&D. I hope you realize that. So let's get ready for more and more of such a cooperations. Unfortunately that's the capitalistic future. :/ |

Toyota is a very innovative company they are the leaders in hybrid technology.
Who better to align with than the people who put the first Prius Hybrid in to production and have since progressed the technology to be the best in the business. The synergy allows greater economies of scale to offer features you do not expect in this segment. You are talking about a sports car that will be revolutionary , advanced and even be more precise and lighter than high end sports cars. For the customer who is also an enthusiast that is going to be great news. And for a new age customer looking for sustainability they will have the eDrive model. Interestingly enough I was at an industry symposium and it was refreshing to hear that many in the industry believe that BMW has taken the innovation crown from Audi in their investment in developing lightweight technology for application in future BMWs. BMW are also smart to align with other areas of industry to jointly supply CFRP to other forms of transportation such as the aero industry. Why is this significant? BMW begin to recoup their initial investment.

You may not recognize it by the humble output of their manufacturing engine, but Toyota is recognized as one of the greatest manufacturers (of anything) of all time. Entire books have been written about the management philosophies that led Toyota to being the in the top 5 automotive manufacturers (by volume) since I can remember. Toyota regularly achieves the lowest defect rate in the various industries in which they compete. Yes, they are the polar opposite of BMW in terms of their automotive design philosophy, but they could learn a lot from each other. Imagine a car with the driving character of a BMW and defect-rate of a Toyota. I would certainly welcome more reliability.

I wonder what did Audi earn that crown for in the first place?? Oh, I get it now. You meant for the innovations from the VW technological basin... As I use to say, comparing Audi to BMW is like comparing a reach daddy's boy to a wunderkind

BMW M cars were known to have fantastic naturally aspirated engines It was their heart. It was their selling point. Now the M3/M4 is turning into a souped up 335/435 I can't justify paying close to $20,000 more for the M4 vs a 435 On what is essentially, the same engine with a higher tune I didn't feel that with the E92 M3. I knew I had a custom built engine, that had something special (8400rpm redline) Is the new engine any better than the 335/435 engine with an aggressive tune? To me the new M4 is a car is have to be convinced to buy E92 with the V8 didn't need any convincing To me, turbos are the dumb mans path to high horsepower. Making high horsepower WITHOUT turbos is much harder, and in my opinion Much more rewarding when you drive it I've driven the new M5, and yes it's a very good engine But in no way does it compare with the S65 or S85 The best thing about the alfa is the weight Not many cars that weigh close to 2000 pounds Heck my 25 year old M3 weighs 2700 with similar power to the alfa

Toyota makes the best cars in the world for people who think cars are just to get you from A to B. They make transportation. BMW is the other extreme, they are for people who enjoy the drive more than arriving. So I understand where he is coming from

I don't understand why so many are upset with this. It sounds almost like a deep seated hate towards Toyota for what reason I don't know.
It's real simple guys. Company A (BMW) is coming together to share technology with company B (Toyota) who will also bring a different technology to the table. From this melting pot of great technology, company A will build a car and company B will also build their version as well. What's the big deal? If you don't like Toyota then buy the BMW version. It will still be a BMW. Auto manufactures share and sell technology as a business all the time. They share engine, transmission, suspension and all kinds of technology ALL THE TIME! This is a good thing as it will make the cost of developing these technologies more affordable to BMW and TOYOTA, which will make the cost of their products more affordable to the consumers.
