Yes, of course I should have also mentioned a SQUARE set up, either applying to already owned staggered wheels, or a new set of squared wheel sizes.

I believe that all M40's come with a STAGGERED set of wheels. Since our friend already ordered her staggered 20 inchers, I was suggesting staying with staggered sizes. I don't know, does a square tire application work ok with staggered wheels?

Since she already has the 20" staggered, she can use those for her snow tires. The important suggestion that she consider SQUARED setup better applies to her NEW set of 21's. Same sizes means rotation is possible, and better tire wear.

She could even buy a set of 4 10" wide wheels. Then she could mount 295's all the way around! :party0030:
295 squared would most likely rub in the front on a 10" wheel… 275 is the sweet spot
I would not go beyond 255s. I am pretty sure I saw something above that rubbing…can't remember if it was 265 or 275. 295 would definitely rub.
Multiple folks running 275 squared with no issues… I'll post some pics of mine with new wheels/tires @ 275 squared…. once I get my new car in May lol

275s on the stock 21" 718M wheels? Wow, I am surprised by that.

Here was the thread I had seen where someone mentioned rubbing in the front (I think with 265s?):

I was responding to the above comment… definitely not possible to run a squared setup on OEM wheels

My 2020 X3 has the 18" wheels (stock size in 2020) and I like them. Plenty of RF and non-RF tires to choose from in that size, less expensive than the larger sizes, more sidewall for a "softer" ride and also helps to prevent wheel damage from our midwest potholes........but that's me....each to their own.
I'm just now learning about the smaller wheels providing a softer ride. Didn't think of that before. My GS F sport before this I believe had 19" and it was like driving on a cloud. I loved that thing lol.

No regrets at all. Got mine with 19''. (20?) 21 look ridiculous on an SUV, in my opinion. No need for that, I'm not 23 anymore.

I remember last year we had an office training where each of us brought our own cars to learn how to behave in unsafe traffic situations. One of us came with a bimmer and extremely big wheels. He is the same one that no one takes seriously. We are all in our 30s and 40s and in a respectable profession.

Appearances are just appearances, but they are usually used to judge/predict in advance which kind of person you are. It's how our brains work.
Woooaah, a person's character being judged off the size of their wheels? I think that's pretty ridiculous and first time I've heard of that lol. I work at one of the biggest defense contractors and the amount of Bimmer SAVs I see in the executive lot with 21" wheels is pretty hefty and the executives are well over their 40's maybe 50's.

I'm sure there are a ton of people who agree as you see in this thread and maybe I have a lot to learn, lol. 34 year old IT Mom here of a 2 year old, this being my first SAV. I find the lowering of these vehicles to be more ridiculous than the bigger wheels 😏.
^^^Agree! That made me LOL when I read it. Whilst I agree with the idea that SUVs have intended purposes (in theory), larger diameter wheels (and their detriment) really only plays into off-roading, which I can guarantee you almost NO ONE in a BMW (or any other manufacturer in this segment) does. Obviously- to each their own…. But personally, I think the 20s look great… and the 19s and 21s do too in certain color combos.
Lol, I giggled too. At the end of the day everyone will have a preference. I think I just liked the look of the 2 toned 718M wheel, not necessarily the size. I had ordered the 699M in Jet black and then switched to the 2 tone because I feel like all black wheels just look like a black hole to me and blend in too much. The 718 had that nice silver to compliment the black so it's not entirely blacked out.

What kind of work do you do that you all brought your cars to learn car safety?
