Anyone have a picture of a top strip on the front windshield? Just curious to see if it looks weird or not.

ill take a pic of mine later, they just finished. it's light (20%) but it'll give you an idea. my guy said no need to tint the back and he only had 35% so we tried the small window and it was really dark. He said he could get 50% later if I feel the need and not to waste money in case it's ok as is.

I have to say, the front 20% does match the back almost perfectly fwiw.

here you go 20% front strip and 20% on front windows, no tint at all over back.

Looks great, any dimming issues? Fr matches rear perfectly.

Just an FYI, the rear windows are not actually tinted, but are smoked for privacy, and offer little to no UV protection like actual tint does. That's why the online configurator says it's 'Privacy Glass' and not tinted.

Is it clear at night? Not too dark? I used a dark film before, but I had to take it off because it was impossible to drive. Now I want to be more careful with the darkening approach.

Nope. They used some kind of ceramic tint that is supposed to be high quality. I still might do the back later not so much for darker effect but more for heat. Here in miami it’s brutal and factory “tint” only stops light not heat

Correct , I just posted before reading this. I asked him to put 70% over the back to avoid too dark at night but he didn’t have, he only had 35% and I had to do the small window as test and it was too dark. He said he’ll order me 50% if I want so it won’t be terribly dark but will stop the heat

I drove last night and it was perfect. 20% that I did on front is almost identical , light wise, to the back ones from factory so if you can deal with those at night, it was the same. Zero issues. I would highly recommend doing the front with 20% as it matches perfectly with the back and it’s not too dark at night. I’m contemplating doing the back with a very light tint for heat blocking purposes.

I understand my sis and bil live in Miami Beach and it does get hot. Here in NJ it’s very doable without ceramic so we tint for privacy and looks basically.

btw the cat was 20% all around with front strip. it was dark enough for me in Miami but I'm getting old lol... in my younger days I would go 15% all around or 10% if I could find it.

Can anyone provide insight on whether a clear (70% technically) ceramic fiim on the windshield causes any problems with the heads up display or any of the safety features? I know on my Subaru Outback the tint shop recommended not doing the film on the windshield because it could affect the calibration of the cameras for the Eyesight (adaptive cruise control and emergency braking) systems.

Just my personal opinion I would never do the front windshield for a number of other reasons.
Certain film and my polarized lenses make weird looking colors, if there is even a spec of something behind the film you’ll see it and drive you crazy, and around here it’s just so illegal and easy to spot it causes extra stops that I don’t want. Again just my opinions. Also if you hit someone or something it’s easy for Insruance to deny you when they see entire front window tinted. Attorneys will have a field day with that one. Tough to defend.

Thanks for the reply. I get where you are coming from and can appreciate what you are saying. I have the front windshield in my F-250 with the 70% film, and I honestly can’t tell it’s there looking through it from the inside or outside. However, it makes a huge difference in the heat coming into the cab.

While I’m sure there is a possibility the insurance could deny a claim based on a ceramic film on the windshield, I think they’d have a pretty weak case to deny unless proving the film was a factor in the claim. I just can’t believe anyone could sit behind the windshield and tell the difference between mine with the film and one without just based on optics.

The place that does my tint has been doing it for 30+ years and they use high quality film and stand behind their work. I’ve had probably 15 vehicles tinted with them over the years and only had one issue with dirt under the film. The shop immediately replaced it as they have a lifetime warranty. I’ve never experienced any visual distortion with or without polarized sunglasses. I’ve done three previous vehicles with the clear ceramic on the windshield, and if it won’t cause problems with the X3, then I like to have it on this one as well.
