So a full European contingent will be on show. The M40i will be shown at the M Performance display on the upper Mezzanine alongside the other M Perfomance models available.

I once had a G12 with a Display Key for a few days. It's the most useless and regrettable "feature" BMW offers. A normal key is superior in many ways.

In the UK configurator I just discovered that "Exterior Mirrors - folding with anti-dazzle" are no longer an option but instead, part of a £995 comfort package. It's a terrible decision as the chances of dealers ticking it for their pre-reg cars is next to zero.
Some might consider it a nice to have feature but I've folded my mirror countless of times when passing other cars on narrow lanes, or when parallel parking. Recently a friend of mine accidentally hit one of his side mirrors while reversing into his garage. The repair bill was £700 for caps, mirror, motors and other bits!

I've just tried this on the UK Config and have been able to add the the anti-dazzle mirrors on both the 20D SE and the 30D M Sport without it forcing me to go for the Comfort Pack.

What's everyone's thoughts on the new X3 against a GLC ?
I'm 50/50 on which one to order I can get a far better discount on the GLC than I can on the X3 also. |

Obviously, everyone is going to have a different opinion. None of us have sat in the new X3.
I'll say that I really didn't like the seating position of the GLC. I felt like a taller hatchback. Think Subaru CrossTrek. It doesn't feel like an SUV, it feels barely taller than the tallest car you've ever driven. Maybe you're looking for that. For me I really really didn't like it. I will say I really enjoyed the power delivery of the engine/DCT in the GLC 43. But its not a place I care to spend my time for the next 3 years. Point is, something really felt off to me about the seating position/interior. Also if its big enough for you? My strong guess is that the X3 is going to be a bigger vehicle than the GLC. I've been in the Current X3 and it feels way larger than the new GLC. The X3 is supposed to be roughly the same size. When testing the GLC, I remember sitting in the driver's seat, looking back and it barely felt larger than my Lexus IS350 which is a pretty small car in my opinion. I recommend you take some time and go look at it at the dealer make your peace with that first. If you can do that then at least with the 43... I think its a pretty sweet vehicle worth your consideration. |

I've had two 5 series over the past 7 years (F11's) and they've been great. The M-Sport was more visually appealing than the SE it replaced, but not as comfortable a ride, which grated on me over the years (20k per annum). April 2016 I put a deposit down on the Tesla Model 3. Gradually, it became clear delivery on that wasn't going to be in time to intercept the end of my F11 PCP, so with the wife's Qashqai nearing 2 years old, it made sense to buy a car that I could hand over to her when the Tesla arrives in "early 2019". I like large, comfortable cars, but the X3/GLC is about the biggest my wife will agree to drive, so back in June, I test drive everything in that class and the GLC wins by a mile. Nice ride and that cabin is a beautiful place. Far better than anything else out there in my opinion. So it's a good compromise for our circumstances I drove 6 or so variations of SE, Sport, AMG Line, different engine sizes and tyre sizes and settled on 220 Sport with premium plus, 360 camera and a few odds and sods. List price £42,500, did a deal at £37,800. Happy days. So why do I want to cancel? My GLC was due 10 days ago. I arranged to voluntarily terminated the F11 and the day before pick up, the dealer advised it was delayed. The day before! Not just delayed, but delayed with no idea when it's going to come. The production line is shut down and the don't give a date. The dealer doesn't care about my circumstance, that I'm imminently car-less and references the contract, that they have no obligation and it's not their fault. I'm happy to share details of how if anyone want to know, but long story short, I've been driving a new E-Class for the last week, free of charge. I never had an experience like this with BMW, they were always awesome, but that's not why I want to cancel. The E-Class blows away the F11 for comfort, interior quality, ride quality, etc. It's a lovely place to sit and a great drive. But that COMAND system.....bloody hell it's awful. How can a 2017 car infotainment system be so very far behind the 2010 system from the F11? It looks pretty, the screen is large, the colours are nice, the graphics are good, but it takes an age to do anything and 50 clicks (slight exaggeration). I was advised to use voice commands instead. Let me give you an example of that experience. Having stored my home address in the pre-defined contact Home, the manual tells you to simply say "Navigate Home". Real world: 1) Press voice button 2) Wait 5 seconds for a beep 3) say "Navigate Home" 4) wait 30 seconds (yep, really) for the whirly wheel on the screen to stop spinning and display a list of destinations beginning with "Hulme" 5) Patiently listen to the car asks which item on the list you want 6) Say "cancel" 7) try again 8) repeat 3 times, give up and enter it manually which is an exercise of about 10 steps. Compare that to the F11: 1) press favourite key number 3 In my opinions it's rubbish. It should be an aid that makes doing the things you want to do easier. Sitting on the drive for 2 minutes programming a destination is not "easier". Looking at the screen 50 times over 1 - 2 minutes as you drive when trying to achieve something is not "easier". This isn't just a familiarisation thing. You can't get anything done quickly. It's all many steps. I can only imagine they had the work experience kid design and develop the software. No, actually it was 10 work experience kids, all in different countries, who didn't speak to one another. So, I'm thinking the X3 is the answer and if it means having a rental for a few months whilst awaiting delivery, but getting a really usable car and a great user experience, that sounds way better to me. |

Thanks, I understand all the journalists who have recently done their tests on the M40i are under embargo from BMW and can't report until the middle of this month.

Long time lurker, first time poster....Hi UK folk.
I was looking at a Merc GLC AMG43 but the M40i has swung me completely in the last 8 weeks or so. My current Merc comes to end of lease shortly so it's time to think about ordering plus thecGLC technology is getting old now. Spoken to my local dealership and they told me order books are not open just yet, When do the order books open? Can I place a deposit right now to secure a build slot? Anyone done this yet in the UK? When do the PCP/H deals get released for the M40i ? Reckon there will be deposit contribution or no chance? Anyone got the UK ordering guide? Any help welcomed Cheers LL |
