Hi! I’m new with bimmers, so would like to clarify.
I found wheels from x4 G02, winter set. Aftermarket rims R19, with Scorpions 225/55/19 99H. Is this load index and speed rating good for x3? From what I saw retailers recommending only 100> … I used tiresize.com to compare 245/50/19 and 225/55/19, they are totally the same! |

Can you replace the center cap of those MSW 74's with Roundels?

This tyre review website & YouTube channel provides great tyre information…
https://tyrereview.com • I live in UK. • Run 21 inch wheels all-year. • 1st April & 1st Oct change my tires between winter/summer. I use the same 21inch BMW size wheel, keeping the BMW summer tires as fitted when purchased the vehicle brand new from factory. Change to a Winter Continental tires for winter. The Continental winter run flat tires are great on 21inch rim wheels, which have got me through 2ft + of snow storms, heavy, normal and light snow, ice and rain conditions with temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius/44.5 degrees Fahrenheit, while drivers and their vehicles all around me struggle. The only down-side with running 21inch BMW rim wheels, is none of the quality tire manufactures produce or make available in UK, All-Season 21inch run flat tires, that are the optimum tire for most of UK. This leaves the only option to swap out between summer/winter tires. I really don't go with the general belief, you need smaller wheels for winter; certainly in the UK winter temperature range and Scottish snow-fall winter days in the Highlands of Scotland. North America and Northern Scandinavia/Europe and the European Alp's and Eastern Europe areas, will have undoubtedly different considerations understandably to my personal UK considerations. Research, prepare and fit in-time winters tires which means you will never be caught out! Utrinque Paratus - Latin for - Ready for Anything.

"while drivers and their vehicles all around me struggle"
Yeah - Ilkley hills last winter when it binned it down with snow. Almost everyone around me, including those smug buggers in Range Rover thinking their car is bullet proof (I think they have all seasons?) skidding around. My 19" winters made me a tractor. The problem is that, in that situation, you are hampered by all around you. Although I had great traction, nobody else did thus a traffic jam ensued ... :-/. It was truly comical watching some dick in a 3-series go up the hill mostly sideways. |

Keep an eye on members classifieds in this forum. I picked up a set of BMW 19
Inch 691's for my M40i with Blizzaks, they work great (Long Island,NY) and only used for 3 months out of the year. Some good deals can be found. |

Does someone have advice for all seasons in the U.K.? I very rarely need to drive in truly cold and winters conditions, I think all seasons would suffice in my case. I’m on staggered 20s so 275/40 and 245/45, non-RF is my preference. It’s tricky finding viable option.
I have to say I was surprised at how well my summer P Zeroes coped in 2 inches of snow but they were quite new, now worn they would be very poor.

In the UK I can only find 295/35 and 255/40...which I'm not convinced are a good option. :-( Maybe though with the rears being 35 profile the sizings work out. I'll look for a calculator...yep, having used the calculator, I'm not happy with the sizes I can get in the UK.

I had the 21 inch rims on mine and also wanted all season tyres. The choices were basically non existent in the UK. I also considered a second set or rims but again the choices were very limited as you already know.
With a set of almost new BMW winter wheels sitting around in my garage from my previous 540i, proving difficult to sell, I did not want to go down that road again. Lack of tyre choices in the UK added weight as to why 1 year into ownership I decided to trade it in for a different vehicle. |

Excepting tire manufacturers in UK do not provide All Season tires on 21inch rims, due to this market segment being minimal and hence minimal profits to be made, is unfortunately a fact of UK life.
So, doing a UK weather average temperature search online, often brings-up the following… "In winter the average is between 2 and 7 degrees Celsius (36–45 degrees Fahrenheit), but temperatures often drop to just below 0 degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit)." As a minimum, all areas of UK will have 4 months of temperatures below 7 degrees Celsius. 7 degrees Celsius is where the optimum crossover of summer to winter tires make winter tires far safer. Yes All Season would be best, but you can't get what is not available. I value my families life over financial concerns with regards swapping over tires on my 21 inch rims. Money is replaceable, family are not. So an average set of 4 good X3 winter tires, purchased and fitted (As of June 2022) will cost £1100. Add £30 for 6 month summer tire storage by your local tire dealer, that works out, over a minimum of 2 years (My tires tend to last closer to 3 years when swapping between winter/summer) at only £580 a year of safe tire driving. My family are worth £580 a year. Just a personal perspective, as all have their variables to use to decide with such decisions. Stay safe.

Completely get your thinking, but last autumn when I was also looking at the option of swapping over to winter tyres on the original rims, a matching set of 4 were very difficult to find and I did not want to mix winter tyres. In some cases, matching turned out to be run flat for 1 axel and non run flat on the other.
Prices were also more towards £1600 for a set, before adding the 2 x annual tyre change costs. I can see more options available today, but since my early morning winter runs to the airport are no longer required, winter tyres for me in the SE are also no longer required. I just wish BMW put a bit more thought on the rim/tyre sizes fitted to ensure an adequate supply of tyre options are available in each market. Staggered fitments seem to limit choices. The new car has 275/45/20 tyres and for all seasons I am spoilt for choice. |

Yes, some 18" non-OEM will fit with no problem (2 winters).

That's great news. Is that yours in that pic? Mine is graphite too.
Mine has staggered wheels, but I assume the hubs underneath are the same for all, so I can go non-staggered without concern.

R - I went for a non-staggered 19-inch winter setup of All-Seasons for here in North Texas. This for my M40i with Sport Diff (stock 21s). I got mine from a close out deal on TireRack… not kidding, out the door for like $1600 (both wheels and tires). But I don't need them to "perform" here in TX… just basically for cold temps so I don't ruin summer rubber. I'm sure I won't be able to sell them for crap when I'm done… but who knows.

Hi All,
New to this forum and a first-time BMW owner. I have a 2018 x3 M40i w/ 20" wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4s tires. Looking for suggestions on if I should get a whole new set of wheels and tires for winter or just pick up a set of winter tires and use the current 20" wheels that I have? Appreciate the feedback. |

A smaller and narrower tire with a higher profile has better traction in deep snow and slush and is much less likely to aquaplane on the ice and in the rain. Furthermore, the smaller tire cuts through snow more effectively because the weight of the car is pressing on a more focused set of contact patches. |

Looking for suggestions on winter wheel & tire set up. Currently have a 2018 x3 M40i. Live in Michigan. Don't want to break the bank, but don't want cheap either.
Thanks in advance. |

Easiest is go on Tirerack.com, enter in your car details, and have them show you compatible rims. You'll want to go with 19s. And from there pick 2 of these 3: Cheap, Strong, Light. Personally I go with cheap and strong, don't really care about light for winter rims.
Then get a good set of winter tires. A good size for 19s are 235/55-19. Note that this is NOT the OE size (which is 245/50-19 but selection is poor for that size), so Tirerack may give you some beef about it. But it will work just fine. Some like a Blizzak DM-V2 or Michelin X-Ice SUV or Conti Viking Contact are great choices for winters. |
