Luckily, my '21 X3 had all the missing stuff. However, my '22 X5 is missing the trunk rails, rear door puddle lights, and I have a monochromatic climate display instead of the colored version.

None of that is listed on the Monroney sticker, and was only discovered AFTER we signed all the paperwork because we didn't get to see the vehicle until it was picked up at PCD two weeks later.

The rear door puddle lights I don't see as we rarely have passengers. The trunk rails I don't see because there is a cargo mat making them useless. The climate display, sometimes I notice it, but most of the time I just ignore it. I did ask about getting it swapped for the color version, and was denied, but was told if there was a warranty issue with it they'd swap for the color version.

My 2023 lights up in the center air vents only but not the side air vents nor the rear air vents. On my 2022, all air vents would light up. I can try to take some pics next time.

Ok got it - I was referring to the center vents.
Not sure if side/rear light up.

Also - did BMW remove toolkit?
They used to provide something at least, now all i had was a tow hook.

It’s just really getting ridiculous.

All I got was the tow hook. I was happy they included 4 tires. Yes, I'm still feeling a little snarky about the unannounced/undocumented/non-Moroney listed shortages. That I still paid the full boat for.

The only give you the tow hook now a day... The even removed the fuse puller and the fuse card... It is really ridiculous if you ask me

After signing the paperwork and working with the Genius to get everything programmed. I must have looked like an idiot making hand signals to the radio. Genius informed me of the removed items. I was hot after that, but I just chose to leave and message BMW. Of course they aren't going to put the $4000 in "features" they chose to de-content back in the car.

I was confused at first reading the 'Ambient Cupholder Lights' and was like there's never been lights in the center cup holders, but you're referring to the door cup holders.

Think BMW call them door map pockets, but iirc there’s more than one light source, so door cup/bottle bit and the longer pocket behind had ambient lighting.

What got me is that they were never listed as de-contented on the Monroney sticker, unlike Audi which did a great job listing everything that was gone, as well as taking the price of the missing items off the car.

Mine was also short the hotspot hardware. Also, IIRC the foot-operated hatch opener was gone, but I think that was listed on the sticker.

Everything on that list was left to the customer to discover.

To add insult to injury, quite a number of forum members received checks from BMW (w/no explanation) but I did not despite getting the same '23 model. Was it because I didn't custom order the car and took one off the lot instead?

Yes, there's a single dial in the rear of the center console that is not illuminated. I just checked. But for those that want to charge their phones the USB C connectors are well-lit.

Yes, just the single horizontal dial that was illuminated. I assume the rear heater control under the dial are still illuminated or has that also gone ?

The controls are still fully illuminated. You just can't find how to set the airflow in the dark....

to me, most of those items are useless but the lack of the extra ambient lighting is infuriating... it just adds a nice touch in a 70k car... this is why when i drive my car at night, i sometimes feel something is missing... lol

These items are not useless, they use to be what set BMW apart from other brands as a luxury vehicle. It’s simply cost cutting measures in a global economy that has declined since the pandemic. If they were useless BMW never would have added them pre pandemic. If they remove them long enough then there is no incentive to bring them back, they will convince the public you don’t really need them. Here we are today.

It will be curious to see what the 2025 model brings, continued diminished luxury features or full on with enticement to buy.
