Along the bottom edge of the gloss black defuser there's some 8mm head self tapping bolts that secure it to the bumper support frame if you remove them between the tail pipes. Pull the two parts slightly apart there's a plastic location tab in the middle but comes out easily the module is located just to the inner left of the right hand tailpipe on the plastic frame. It has three connections 2x 2 pin plugs one yellow wires and one white wires these are the antennas and one 3 pin plug with what looks like 2x brown grey 1x green grey wires this is power and LIN Bus connection.

I have found some new information today regarding the 32x delete.
It would appear what looks like the module on my car is actually a termination resistor for the LIN Bus luckily I bought the required module some time back the attached documentation tells you the module needed. If you notice on the photo it says 30kOhm on the label this means it's NOT a module but a terminating resistor for the Lin Bus.
The antennas are fitted to the resistor even though they don't function there must be thoughts about retrofit!

Now it also appears some cars left the factory with the termination resistor fitted but without the 32x code! These cars just need the module swapping and should work without coding. I am going to swap mine to the functional module and see what happens but I'm not hopeful of it working without coding as there's no function in the idrive normally under tailgate section.

This fills me with a glimmer of hope :-). Those trips to Tesco with both hands full, and having to put the shopping dowm, are killing me man!!

I'll have a check-ski tomorrow - thanks a lot for that - great stuff!

Incidentally I'm stunned how clean it was when I got under to check. I've done 1100 in shitty conditions sometimes and it's like new!

I swapped modules this evening. Didn’t get a chance to do the coding. Nothing works even after letting the car go to sleep. Pic of the two modules below. Interesting to note the difference between Neil’s module and mine. BMW must be using two different suppliers for the same part number.

Quick google search - it "could be" is coded OFF?

https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1726128

"Thank you for your post. I just used BimmerCode to disable the kick feature.

EDIT _ I just read those bulletins again. They don't mention re-coding, just turning the car off for 30m. Perhaps (conjecture) that is the reason this is only for the delivery stop vehicles, due to the fact that (again conjecture) the 32X vehicles had coded it out, versus the 322 with the delivery stop had not.

Can't wait to find out :-)

I wonder, in the meantime, if someone with Bimmercode AND handsfree tailgate could validate that setting (FEM_BODY > CAM_SMART_OPENER = nicht_aktiv).

You are correct the bulletin's do refer to stop sale vehicles, they were released from the factory with the full 322 Comfort Access code installed and the termination resistor before BMW had chance to develop the 32X delete code, they are full of good information and there could be a few that slipped through the net.

I am told its not as simple as just activating the Tailgate function although this will work and I stand to be corrected, a guy I know who does vehicle coding for a living is very knowledgeable on the job so I trust his judgment, He said the 32X code needs to be removed from the Vehicles chassis VO (Vehicle Order) and reverted back to 322 as well as the function activating, this will avoid the code change been overwritten by a software update further down the line.

The following modules in the car need coding to enable the operation:

VO coding needs to be changed and then code the HU_MGU and BDC_BODY

CAFD_00003E52_008_034_005.ncd HU_MGUBackdoor_SMO_INSTALLED nicht aktiv -> aktiv

CAFD_00007083_029_030_008.ncd BDC_BODYVAM_SMART_OPENER nicht aktiv -> aktiv_HK

A BMW Master Tech I know, asked BMW Technical if he could apply for a VO change for the 32X delete on my car and he was told no retrofit option available at this time :-( as I would prefer to have it done through the correct channels even if it cost a few quid.

Hope this makes sense NJW

It works!

I made the following three changes listed by kalyke in the below thread:
https://www.******.com/threads/hands...te.4474/page-2
  • HU_MGU: Backdoor_SMO_INSTALLED nicht aktiv -> aktiv
  • BDC_BODY: VAM_SMART_OPENER nicht aktiv -> aktiv_HK
  • BDC_BODY: VAM_ENABLE_SMART_CLOSE nicht_aktiv -> aktiv

I just used Bimmercode. I made no changes to the VO, so this will be wiped if the car gets an update. I would be slow to change the VO on a new car in case it stops updates, as the VO in the car wont match the server.

Thanks to Neil (njw1967) for the link to the i4 forum

Oh dear - would you agree that from the looks of this video the 'cupboard is bare'? I cannot see any evidence of ANY technology related to kick to open, none of those two wire setup nor any control box.

I didn't remove the diffuser btw, just the panel behind it. It's annoyingly devoid of anything that looks likes the above :-/

You looked in the wrong place. You need to check the black piece of plastic directly behind the bumper.

If it isnt there, you can still retrofit, it is just harder. I got spare antennas with my module, you are welcome to them, just pay the postage.

The wiring loom would be tricky to make without the proper crimper. You wont be able to crimp the rubber bungs with a pliers. That area will see a lot of water spray, you want the wires sealed properly. I dont have the time to be making up looms for people, but I have a friend that makes custom wiring looms as a side business. He mainly does VAG looms but VAG and BMW use the same pin systems, made by TE.

Sorry to keep being a dumb-ass - but for a frame of reference is that screw hole there that which the diffuser attached to?

Thus, did you remove the diffuser completely to see it? If so, at the extremeties of each side of the diffuser (behind the rear wheels) there is a some kind of push pin plug type thing (plastic) that I didn't want to mess with (you can pull it out so far but I didn't know if it's right to yank it out completely). Also, since I unscrewed the diffuser fixings (those which had a proper bolt I could unscrew) I didn't want to force the diffuser away from the bumper without knowing that's the correct thing to do for fear of breaking some clips :->

Again, apologies for being lame in this regard!

No mate
You don't have to remove the defuser just open it up between the bumper frame.
I've swapped my module tonight without taking the defuser off
