I really wanted to like Audi's but just can't.

I have a love-hate relationship with BMW at the moment. Love the cars, hate the issues with option availability, and hate the fact that prefer BMW's

Just cancelled my order. Not sure what I'm going to do next but having features missing on the car I ordered just isn't acceptable to me.

The chip shortage has really made it an awful time to buy a car. Not sure if I should try to wait it out but with my current car needing repairs, might be better to just pull the trigger on the fully loaded GV70 I test drove this morning…

Just signed up yesterday for a new LCI 40d. No Glacier Silver anymore so have went for Tanzanite blue and have went for the mstyle seats. The icing on the cake is I am 7k in equity with my current 40d due to the issues in the semi conductor industry, 28 months Ito a 4 year pcp and getting a brand new car for less monthlies. It is a very strange world at the moment.

After decades of BMW ownership and after BMW bought back our 2018 M40I. we decided to try Audi (still keeping our 2012 X35i) and picked up a 2021 SQ5 a few months ago. So far happy with the Audi. Similar cars and also very different.

The GV70 is really nice. It was fully loaded so it came with everything that a loaded BMW X3 M40i would have, but at about $5k less. It handled really well and was very peppy, but it still didn't have that BMW road feel or aggressiveness. Close but not quite. It was very comfortable and some of the features in the digital instrument cluster were very nice, such as the side rear camera view when changing lanes. The head up display was very nice as well. They are very hard to come by right now and I'm holding myself back from jumping on grabbing the one I drove this morning because as nice as it was, I really had my heart set on the X3 M40i. I don't want to do something impulsive when this much money is involved and there's really no negotiating so it only benefits the dealers, no matter how badly I need a car.

It’s back on!!!

Yesterday we put a deposit down on an LCI M40i I can not believe my wife went with it. I’m a little nervous about future running costs, ie fuel economy and insurance but what the heck, it will probably be our last combustion car.

Spec as follows:

Brooklyn Grey metallic
Carbon trim
M seats
Leather with blue stitching
Blue calipers
Pano roof
Driving assistant professional
Comfort pack
Galvanic controls
Front lumbar support

Should get it early January 22.

Fuel economy really isn't that bad, I'm getting 30 mpg or high 20s on everything other than really short local journeys. With the MHEV in the new cars it should be even better

Just signed the dotted line too for a M40d LCI

I originally ordered a G05 X5 M-Sport in March but it was cancelled due to the removal of air suspension and Harmon Kardon, so I have now turned to the LCI X3.

https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/configid/a192tj97

I also chose the M-Sport Seats. My only concern with the M-Sport seats is that the seat width adjustment is absent, although they are exactly the same M-Sport Seats as available on the G20/21 M340i/d which have both seat width adjustment and lumbar support in driver and passenger seats..I think us X3 buyers are being taken for fools!

If I stay with the standard sport seats and select cost option lumbar support, the passenger seat lumbar is removed although aparently seat width adjustment is retained

Nice spec, but a crazy wait for a new car.
Fuel consumption is pretty good for such a car, but depends where and how you drive it. Just back from a 100 miles round trip, motorway and country lanes and averaged 36.4mpg. Insurance is as you know age dependent, I paid less than I did on my previous 540i G31 and being of the elder generation, is pretty reasonable.
One of the few cars that I really enjoy driving

My insurer quoted £870 for a 2021 M40i, but delined to cover a 2021 M40D A 20D M Sport would cost me £258.

Unfortunately I was hit in my previous car back in February this year which was written off which is why I’m in the position of buying a new car.

I was paying just under £200 fully comp, personal accident, legal, protected in a VW Tiguan. The best I can get the M40i for is £560. Weasel insurers don’t miss a trick to put your premiums up, even if your not at fault. Apparently your statistically more likely to be involved in a second incident!

I don't have the actual breakdown, but I pay a total of £580 fully comp for my new M40i and a 118i.

M Sport seat rather than Sport seats? J

I was told I could have both seats with lumbar support on M Sport seat option. Just wish they did them black/grey as I would have ordered in a heart beat, but didn't like the colour options having seen them in the flesh on pre LCI.

Yes M seats.

I’m hoping the come with the coloured M badge in the headrest like the configurator and not black ghosted like the pro LCI. In some pictures I’ve seen they look illuminated but I don’t think they are.

I've given up trying to work out what BMW will actually supply.

In the UK brochure for the M40 Pro, the M Sport Seats look like the blue stitching has been limited to the seat sides, as the seat centre, armrest and door caps look like grey stitching. I assume the dash would be grey as well, and the seat badge looks like the illuminated variaty.

On the UK configurator for M40, it's blue stitching all over the place, granted this isn't the Pro, but would it be that different?

I guess we'll know for sure when your car arrives.

Dealer says mine will have blue stitching on dash and door cards to match the seats which is what I want. I went with black M seats instead of cognac as the dealer said the dash and doors would clash with blue stitching but now seeing some pictures with cognac seats you get grey stitching on the dash, so I’m as confused as you!

The Cognac has grey stitching on the door caps and dash, and Mocca contrast stitching on the seats and armrest like pre LCI.

Looks like bum info from the dealer, as there's no blue unless you opt for black with blue interior.

It's just a PITA, and the latest for me is that LV will no longer insure the MHEV version of the M40D. The pre MHEV they will cover, so don't know if that will also extend to the MHEV for the M40i.

I going with Elephant as they were one of the few decently priced insurers that will cover the pano roof. You really have to check the policy, most don’t cover glass roofs.

Yes, LV does, Hastings doesn't, think Admiral does.
