Well there's gaps on this grill so I guess the answer is there's less protection. Though nothing much behind it than a rubber type material, so if anything got through the gaps then I think it would be ok.

I actually prefer the wheels on the M Sport! I grew to disliking the wheels on mine so much that I was looking at other cars. The "Man Maths" then justified the expense for the new wheels |

https://www.alloywheelsdirect.net/ Couldn’t recommend them highly enough. I was a bit nervous about putting non-factory orderable wheels on the car but the level of diligence the guys go into to make sure it’s ok is fantastic and very reassuring |

Those alloys are the biz! The grill is the icing on the top. Without doubt this is how BMW should have sold the car. Have you noticed any reduction in range given the larger size alloys.

No none at all, but my miles aren't really the motorway miles that these things make the differences on.

Thanks good to know. To be honest I doubt it would make that much difference even on the motorway. Its looks great in Carbon black. Mine is the Pre LCI and so that came with the black alloys with the polished rim. I would not mind the grill. The standard one is crap with the open space at the bottom. They could have used the standard grill and have it open and closed as an when it was needed for cooling. The 21" alloys suit the car better as they fill the arch where as the 20" leave a fair bit gap in the arch.

The gap should be exactly the same. A 21" wheel should have a lower profile tyre, to give the same overall diameter. Otherwise the speedometer and milometer will read incorrectly.
