Yes, technically you are still drilling holes, but underneath where it won't be seen.

Ooh, good point. I don't have my M40i yet so I don't know how much of a hindrance that will be...I'll have to see if there's a way to design around that. This vehicle has its radar antenna mounted unusually low. If the Sto N Sho won't work, I might just have to go with the "ugly" option!

It's still risky though because they can still give you a ticket and it's not just a "fix it" ticket like it used to be. There's actually a fine involved. So...yeah, it's best to keep the plate on at all times and just have the quick-release option for when you want to show a car or take clean looking photos, or easily wash the car's bumper, etc. Having said all that, it seems that the cops in my neck of the woods don't really care that much. They probably treat it like window tint and only cite you if you've been pulled over for a moving violation.

That's what I did and I think it looks well balanced -- it's not a sight for sore eyes. I would've considered the tow hook plate mount if it weren't so low and if it offered some bumper protection like the center mount does. The tow hook mount also looks like it disrupts the airflow.

I am glad Bobsm3coupe and Kamek agree with me. I had my factory issued bracket mounted today. They apologized for missing it tucked in w/ the spare tire on pre-delivery and had me in and out today in under 10 mins.

Don't get me wrong, I respect the side mount and the persistence to avoid drilling holes which I would've ideally done myself. What I meant by "sight for sore eyes" is that the factory center mount bracket doesn't look terrible on the car as it does on others, so I'm ok with it!

you can flip the mount upside down, with the larger holes drilled for weight reduction on top...I did this at first and it pinged a few sensors when I came to a stop behind other cars in traffic each time. so then I flipped it down...no sensor activation.

well, the tow hook license plate mount proved its worth ten fold today...
after my oil change was finished at the dealer today, they apologized they couldn't wash my car due to the front license plate...I said "NO PROBLEM AT ALL, THANK YOU!!!!" was thrilled they didn't use their dirty rags and commercial brushing car wash to create lots of nice swirl marks on my brand new car...totally forgot to tell them "no wash" but the license plate bracket saved the day!!! |
