Nothing to do but wait and see now. But as others have mentioned I'm not in love with the idea of a torn down and rebuilt engine for sure unless it's done in properly equipped facilities and comes with an extended warranty.

On the bright side if it turns out to be bad, I already have been eyeing a return to the X5M!
Why would you want to drive something slow like the X5M?

I don't think anyone has ever said the x5m is slow.

That's good to hear. Mine is currently showing 0 recall on the sites and fingers crossed. Going to try to push for extended warranty if I'm able to pick it up in the next few days.

Same here, nonetheless bearing failures can often hide and result in snapping cranks and more.

Which is the main reason I'd never purchase a new BMW or do any mods to it at all;lease and 100% stock for me,solidified in my head after all the issues I had with my 2020 M550i.
If I wanna go fast I'll jump on one of the bikes

Talked to an engineering friend at BMW he's going to try and dig up some dirt on this for us, I wont report anything until its confirmed so dont ask. Rumors of this have spread like wildfires in the BMW communities. BMW corporate is well aware and is apparently hot on the trail to get information out asap.

Be interesting to see, BMW live chat aren't giving anything away saying "your dealership will handle it" and the dealership haven't got a clue themselves. Mines meant to turn up next week so let's see..

The UK recall check link provided in page one of this thread says my X3 M I took delivery of on 9/20 is affected. Can someone provide me a link to the US/North America website for checking on recalls?

BMW NA has not updated the technical bulletin yet, it will take a while for everything to catch up for us since it was USA based production. BMW Europe/Germany has the bulletin on their systems because that's where engineering is based. As far as I've been told, the cars are drivable and there is no "safety" bulletin yet so partial good news. Everyone just wait around and lets see what happens.

Bad enough the dealer can't complete the break-in service due to the diff fluid being on backorder smh
Interesting. What are the repercussions of delaying the break-in service? Does it just remove engine limitations? About to get my first real M, sorry for the newbie question.

The break in service changes out the break in specific fluids and oil. After break in they swap in new fluids and oil. There are no engine limitations on M's before break in service. You can run it up to the red line from the moment you get in the car the first time.

You can't do launch control until after break-in.

That's hogwash. BMW advises to wait till 1K miles, but you can use launch control before that point.

Although tangential to V8MAN's OP, just wanted to once again share BMW’s formal LC recs found in the Stickies Tech Documents section. They advise against LC during the ‘Breaking-in period’ which they define up to 3,100 miles.

Not getting into the discussion of whether it should or shouldn’t be done before that time (as it is technically possible from day 1 as others have mentioned), just showing what they officially state.

My first time reading LC 4.2.4; I was planning on doing LC after my 1,200 break-in service. The online manual thru MyBMW isn't as descriptive as the one you posted. TY TY TY for this.

EDIT: Just picked up after break-in service. My SA looked into it and as far as they can see, my car is not affected. (Build 9/03/21). Hopefully it stays that way...

y GM at the store I purchased from called yesterday regarding my X4M. He's good friends with me so this is what was discussed.

BMW states these cars are drivable for those affected. If you haven't taken delivery of the vehicle by a dealerships perspective (RDR = reporting a vehicle), and have the deal funded via BMWFS or whomever, then your vehicle can not be sold.

I was offered a concession via BMW for 4 months to be paid for the car. However, I feel for that given tHe situation it's hard to "enjoy" the car inevitably knowing that it will have to eventually go back to get the main bearings replaced, or the engine. If they offered a supplementary warranty maybe I could warm up to the idea. However, 13 miles on the clock — doesn't sit right.

So my dealership will let me know if we switch gears to maybe ordering an x6m instead.

Kinda bummed as there was product installed on the car and I order an exhaust and parts only for literally a day after the bulletin to appear. Crappy timing.

I'm also bummed because I ordered a couple of parts from a vendor on here and now will be charged $1000+ for a 20% restocking fee on parts that are still in the box.

So it's been "fun" rollercoaster this go around

Wow, thats tough. Sorry to hear that.

I'm hesitant to reach out to my dealership about the recall. I don't want to open up a can of worms or go through a headache.. But, It's going to have to happen at a point..
