I think that 1969 song was the end for the Beach Boys as a "surf" band; the beginning was 1961's Surfin' which has a bit of doo-wop vibe to it.

Love that song, Rick! From about 1963 to 1965 or so, it seemed like all I listened to was the Beach Boys. I resented the Beatles at first because they took radio air time away from the Beach Boys. I very distinctly remember when I became a Beatles fan: May of 1965 at my high school senior prom (in the Philippines) and we hired a young band from Manila to play. They were excellent; when they played "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" by the Beatles, I was hooked! But I certainly did not lose my love for the Beach Boys -- in fact, a few years ago I bought all the individual Beach Boys albums on CD and I've also owned all the Beatles albums on CD for many years.

I think I've shown in this thread my broad musical tastes, but the Beach Boys and the Beatles are still the bedrock!

This was about the end of their surf music era until 1969, when they released Do It Again

For me it's always been The Beatles. I like lots of music but they have always been my favorite band.

Actually I'm about the same -- I buy only a couple a year recently. I've got a CD storage problem...
