Don't mean to drag this thread out any longer but after speaking to Michelin they said the is no difference between a "star" and "M01" tire, they said "it's the same time"
Can someone explain what I'm missing. Not clear as to why the 265/295 set up has to be "M01" vs "Star" if at the end of the day they are the same time made by the same manufacturer.

Thanks for video. Maybe the question I was supposed to ask is why use the Mercedes "M01" tire and look at the attached picture, not sure what the difference is other than one say Mercedes and the other says BMW and a small price difference.
The first post of this thread says- MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 4S 265/295 setup Front Size: 265/40ZR21 (105Y) XL - MO1 Mercedes Rear Size: 295/35ZR21 (107Y) XL - MO1 Mercedes *Don't use the "Star BMW" spec as the 295 is a "front specific" tire for the X5 M and the 265 rear tire your X3 M came with (can't simply be shoved to the front). It's not that easy & not the way it works. The 265 rear tire your X3 M came with was designed by Michelin to be a "rear specific".

In the picture above. Mo1 tire is designed as rear fitment for mb glc 63.
Bmw tire is designed as front for x5m. According to video front and rear designs use different compounds in different bands of thread There is no bmw star design fitment in the above sizes for front and rear So you have to buy mo1 from glc 63 fitment. Or go with generic ps4s that are not oem |

Video is very informative for those that go on the track constantly where this matter the most. Normal driving/grocery getter or some spirited driving, it doesn't matter from my experience whether it's star or the M01 |

I strongly recommend that you also watch the other video on the same channel about OEM tires. There he says hands off OEM Tires.
Cars are only tested in the dry and tire wear is irrelevant. Also the OEM Tires need to be as cheap as possible fpr the car manufacturer. |

Even though BMW isnt using Michelin anymore, curiously enough these are still STAR rated/marked/whatever. Yet Hankook has nothing anywhere referencing a special/custom OEM tire for BMW

That’s quite a statement, is there a press release or something to back it up? Or did you just lose the tire lottery? I got Michelins on mine, guess I lucked out.

Stanky, those are on a 2024 X3MC thats on sale on cargurus. Its not mine, sorry if I gave that impression. However, to answer your question my car came with Michelin PS all season 4. Not sure how that happened but that's what came with it, and its CPO as well, so I have 26K miles and have about 4mm left. Looks like I'll be getting new tires this year, early next at best. Just from observations. I had an iX loaner while mine was getting the annual service, and it came with Hankooks as well. Should have specified on X3s. |

so what's the consensus on spacers? should i go 12MM or 15MM?
some people say they rub on 15MM and others do not. is the 3MM that big of a difference when it comes to looks?

It would be very interesting to see these side by side. They are definitely not the same tire with different markings, 100% no. I don't know why Michelin would say that. I used to work in the tire industry and I recall one Scorpion Ice & Snow, it was a 255/55R18 MO spec we ordered because the regular one was on backorder and we were getting low on stock. It was at least an inch wider than the regular one. Completely different. |

This was actually announced back in 2021. Hankook is sharing OEM duties with Michelin as well as Continental. Posters here have received their X3/4M with all three variants. Glad I got the Michelins on mine, but sounds like the Hankook tire they use is also good, and is being OEM’d on BMW’s i-line of cars as well.

I think summer PS4S. I have not found PSAS4 that are m01 or star. Mine do not have the star mark. I'm going to the BMW dealer on friday and will walk to the MB lot next door and take a peek to see if they have these tires on their AMG* cars ("fake" amg) |

Hey guys i’m planning to switch to 265/40/21 and 295/35/21 since my stock rear tires are done. Will the 265/295 fit without wheel spacers ? Anyone who has this setup please let me know . Thanks

Running the M01 setup referenced above on an otherwise stock 2020 X3M Comp. No issues whatsoever.
