Just drove a Tesla 3 RWD again the other day, so much fun and such a cool car. Would love it as a daily and a '80s 911 Turbo as a weekender.
Anyone know what will happen to ICE vehicles that are bought like 2-3 years before the big 2035? Will they plummet in value? Would there even be gas in all the place it is now by 2030ish? Also, what say you of this: https://www.cnbc.com/2022/09/13/why-...in-on-evs.html Cliff notes: Toyota believes all-electric vehicles are one solution, not the solution. Toyota believes it really will be a mixed market (w/hydrogen, eFuels) Toyota expects different areas of the world to adopt electric vehicles at varying rates, largely based on available energy, infrastructure and raw materials needed for the batteries to power the vehicles.

Not to mention that one of the biggest constraints with hydrogen fuel is the freezing temps and frozen nozzles.
Works great down here in Cali; four of my coworkers drive Toyota Mirais. But would that same hydrogen infrastructure simply work in freezing Minnesota? Not currently. It's a good bet that the migration period will tilt toward turbo 4-bangers with big EV systems, hydrogen cars in places that have climates to support it (or they fix the hydrogen refueling issues), and of course, a large swathe of pure PHEVs.

Talk about climate change, that burnin' Subie is already making it rain!

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

It would have been a lot more convenient if we developed a liquid form of energy that could replace oil and was sustainable. Of course "e-fuel" is a thing but doesn't look that promising. That way we could have kept the current infrastructure intact and made a easy transition. Oh well |

It also doesn't compress easily and requires tanks that can support insane pressures, requires tons of energy to produce and then compress to those pressures, requires trucking all over the country in vehicles and pipelines, and so on. It's about as practical as a poopy-flavored lollypop for cars. For big ocean ships it may make a little more sense, but it takes way more energy to make it work and then it works crappy because of all the weight/cost required to hold 10,000psi. Oh, and then you are tried to one energy source...vs. being able to tap into coal, fusion, hydroelectric, solar, etc....It just seems to be some sort of irrational attraction because it's "some kind of ICE engine".

8000 9000...don't think we are going to see much of a difference here. They call em bro-dozers for a reason.
