No offense to anyone but. Can we just stop this? If it's there, it's there. BMW engineers won't place it if it would just wreck your engine. It's making me and new owners worry about their proudly owned F25, as a returning customer or a new owner.
If this would help, I will go to BMW NA headquarters in woodcliff NJ to ask them about the start\stop.

If the problems will appear over the long time and a lot miles, any car manufacture would not care about it. It will be your "technologies trap". I don't like aditional sistem which has no relevancy about car drive. But, who knows, maybe we are too conservative guys.

I haven't heard any technical reason as to why start/stop may cause problems during break-in, only speculation by a Porsche salesman.

http://cars.uk.msn.com/reviews/bmw-x3-2010-onwards-1 I know this all comes down to personal preference. I thought I would hate start/stop. But I've had my 2013 35i for about 1.5 months and 2700 miles, and I honestly don't mind it and I rarely turn it off. It doesn't kick in too often in my daily commute, and in situations where I find it annoying, it's easily disabled. I do however fully agree that it would be nice to be able to change the default to "off" via iDrive. |

I just got my F25 35d today, and in its first drive it must have start/stopped about 30 times.
I thought I would hate it, but actually it didn't bother me at all. And it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling not to have the engine burning fuel while stuck in traffic or waiting at lights. Obviously I can't comment on long term issues, but I will probably be taking out the extended warranty when the time comes anyway.

What is "a first" with the 2013 F25, is that for the first time it has now been added to petrol (gas) engines with auto transmissions. While I have grown to accept the stop/start and now no longer bother to switch it off, I agree it would be best to have a switchable default function via the iDrive. In a similar vein, I would also like to see the auto hold default being able to be set via the iDrive. Its the one that actually bothers me more than the stop/start (ie I prefer if the auto hold was on by default on starting). Tony |

http://www.insideline.com/bmw/x3/201...full-test.html http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/19/2...-drive-review/ So 2013 is the third model year to have start/stop with a petrol engine and auto transmission. |
