Another possibility is to use a coin holder that lives in one of the many cup holders. The one in the drivers door is pretty much out of view from outside the car so shouldn't be an invitation to a thief.

I have noticed it in some videos that there is a small additional pull down glove box just below and offset from the steering wheel, but not sure if this is standard on all models or an option.

It's not standard. It appears magically if you order the Storage/Convienience Package. Otherwise that part of the dashboard is just blank space.

Which is interesting as the Cdn website says nothing about an extra dash mini glove box in the Storage pkg?? Not sure what the US website says..

That little storage box is quite handy. Thought it was kinda silly when I first noticed it, but use it all the time now.

Yes, that compartment does come in handy. Perfect fit for a radar detector when it is not in use up on the visor. Did not realize it was part of any package.

May be the "extra" little compartment was given to me for "free" by the assembly line worker who "accidently" installed a Sapphire Black left side rear mirror for my Jet Black X3.

I learned today that the "free" extra little storage compartment is part of the Premium package here in the US.

2 Possible remedies: little plastic bank bag/s ("ziploc"-type) - fill with change; leave in rectangular space in front of cupholders and cover with the black nylon type gloves that comes in the "mobility kit"; lengthwise these gloves fit nicely into this space and keeps the money out of sight; plastic bag prevents the money spilling all over the space; can use different bags for different types of coins; - 2'nd: buy a generic "cup" that fits in one (or both) of the cupholders - and fill the "cup" with loose change. Hope this helps - I use the 1'st option. Regards.

The last pair of sunglasses I bought came in a microfiber bag with a drawstring closure. I keep coins in this bag in the center console. (I can still use the outside of the bag to polish my sunglasses if I need to.

My X3 came with 2 "cups" that fit into the drink holders - are these for coins or really small cups?

some car i had in the past, maybe my 2003 VW passat, maybe one of the American SUV's I had prior to that had a little ashtray compartment that fit inside of and took up a cupholder - worked for change too since I don't smoke.

I was trying to figure out what to do on my X3 myself for change last week - I came up with a quick cheap solution - put my change in a ziplock sandwich bag and put that bag in the center console compartment.

I don't use change in the car like i used to - i don't do drive-thru food like when I was younger, they, along with many parking meters and highway tolls are all credit card or ezpass (electronic tolls for those of you in another country) few parking meters still take quarters. that being said, by the time i get my next car i don't think I will care at all.

Well, I've always used ashtray to put coins. But the x3 does not come with an ashtray and I do want to save the small compartment next to the steering wheel for my sunglasses, wallet...etc.
Is there a sunglass holder above the mirror? (haven't gotten my car yet)

In the USA, if you get the premium package you also get the storage package that includes a small mini glove box like storage cubby to the left of the steering wheel {when sitting in the driver's seat}.

No, but there is ample space for sunglass storage in the storage space to the left of the steering wheel. You ordered the Premium Package, so you will have it.
