For the OP I think a Tesla is a good 2nd car, especially with $6 gas in CA. Or there's plenty of other EVs if you don't mind potential 1st gen car problems and a worse charging network. |

How or why are we comparing a real car to a golf cart? It’s not worth even discussing in my opinion .

Tesla from my experience, is a winner of this battle from performance, quietness, and technology standpoint, but is a loser on interior design, range, and impressiveness in general.
Tesla really is a Toyota in the EV world, it's everywhere in the Bay Area, and like @Rottweiler said, commonality is absolutely the number one reason why I don't want to own one. My friend has so many trouble finding his car after NFL games, imagine 10-20 Teslas in a row with same color lol.

I'm on 20's with Pirelli's all round, yes a firmer ride but you soon get used to them, if it was my wife's car I would definitely go for RF's as it would be peace of mind if she had a puncture. |

At the rate Elon keeps reducing the retail price of Teslas, that gap against the 40i is going to grow due to additional depreciation! It'll be like comparing BMW against a premium brand like Acura (or Mazda).
Let the lemmings have their Teslas! |

I'm just giving my opinions here...
I don't care how "fast" it is or that 250 miles is enough (which on any road trip it's actually NOT even close), I'm just saying they aren't really more environmentally friendly.... and sometimes it's not how fast you go but how well you go fast. sure, you can take your tesla and beat my hellcat 0-60 as many times as you want, its NOT the same. there are intangibles like feel, fun, sound etc. that you cannot replicate or compare a computer/software propelling you vs real mechanics. It's my opinion only so don't kill me, I'm just saying I'll never buy an EV for any reason and 250 mile range doesn't even get me out of my state of Florida from my house, not even halfway actually. besides, all that electric that is needed to "charge" the battery likely negates most of the savings on emissions from the exhaust as the power plants run on fossil fuels like coal and oil...so there is no real green savings.. you're just shifting the money away from exxon/mobil and GM and giving it to other people (we'll leave out where it actually goes to, lol). let's also not get started on the lithium battery issues... You ever see one of them catch fire? I have and the fire fighters couldn't put it out. furthermore, when that battery is dead, what do you think happens to it? it cannot be recycled ... almost every part of every ICE motor once dead or done, is aluminum, steel etc, all items that can be truly recycled... so all this nonsense of how it's better for the environment... is just that. I'll keep my ICE v8 or I6 Turbo in my current m40i's case. maybe I'm just getting old, but thankfully or hopefully in my lifetime I will still have a choice to drive an ICE vehicle and not be forced to have an EV. we can't even supply power now to the people in many places and we're at what 3% of all vehicles being EVs as of today? so if you think you're going to add 97% to EV, let me know how that works out.. especially in certain places like Cali or if you remember Texas recently where they couldn't keep power on for things like electric in your home, let alone adding millions of EV's charging up LOL... what a joke

Reporter: Sir, I couldn't help but notice that you are an EV owner. How are you going to deal w/the current blackout? [EV Owner connects long extension cord to charging port of EV and walks to the other side of the house.] Reporter: Sir, I see are you trying to your charge your EV here but do you realize we've lost power in the whole county? [EV Owner connects other end of extension cord to a standby generator and proceeds to load it up with fossil fuel.] Reporter: Now I've seen everything! |

I’ve owned two EVs and neither were for the environmental impact. Even if we all switched to bicycles I have a feeling humanity would find a way to make their mass production and commercial sale wasteful.
At the time I was switching between a manual 328 coupe, performance exhaust, etc. and an i3. Both were fun in their own right. I can’t get over the instantaneous torque delivery of an EV. The i3 was fun… testing the iX was even better. One pedal driving was absolutely awesome, especially in South Florida traffic. Aside from the power delivery, the other draw was the charging. Top up every night and you’re good to go the next morning. No need to visit a gas station. I actually have more range anxiety with my ICE cars than I ever did with the i3s. The cost to do a full 80 mile charge was a whopping $1.15. What soured me to EV ownership was when you do have a repair they pretty much must be done at a dealer and if it’s anything touching the HV system it’s going to be expensive. AC compressor was going to be pushing $5k. Maybe this will change in the future but I have my doubts.

I mused, some years back, about the Tesla roadster and its 1.9s 0-60. Sub 2seconds is TIGHT.
Just curious - since we are on a 'relatively' high-ish net worth channel, did anyone put a deposit down for that beast? I was tempted up front - just to 'carpet bag' the thing but decided against it. :-) I always mused about such things as https://substackcdn.com/image/fetch/...81_574x409.png |
